It's been one week since the firing of legendary coach Joe Paterno for failing to morally do the right thing and report child abuse.
The man who was known for winning, and winning the right way did not do the right thing and it cost him his job, tarnished his reputation, and changed the way many of us will now look at athletics.
I'm a Christian and it's hard for me to come to terms with this and wrap my mind around it. Fortunately, the child predator was caught.
Unfortunately, he wasn't caught soon enough.
Numerous questions will probably never be answered.

It takes a savvy business person to recognize a niche in a community, then seize the opportunity to fill it. And though neither Bethany Knudsen or Dustin Spanel has ever owned their own business before, that is exactly what they did.
Dustin says he became aware of the opportunity when the western store Way Out West closed. "It left a hole in the community," he says. That is when the wheels started turning in his head of starting a business of his own - and a western store seemed perfect.

Custer County Board of Supervisor District lines have been reconstructed. State law says that each district within a county must be organized so that the population base is as even as possible. Although the population in Custer County decreased from 11,793 to 10,939 in the last census, Broken Bow’s population gain from 3515 to 3559 helped move the supervisors' district lines off balance.
The Board of Supervisors passed resolution 50-2011 Tuesday morning establishing the new voting districts. For more on the redistricting process see this week’s Custer County Chief.
Sargent dropped Loomis 48-0 last night. The Bulldogs advance to the Class D2 state championship and will take on Howells in a rematch of last years state championship final. Kickoff is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 21 at 2:30 p.m. at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln.

Speaker of the Legislature Mike Flood of Norfolk brought the ninth day of the special session to sudden and unexpected calm and content. Â
About 90 minutes into debate of Schuyler Sen. Chris Langemeier’s oil pipeline routing bill, Flood stunned lawmakers and onlookers with news that TransCanada will voluntarily re-route its controversial pipeline. Called Keystone XL, the pipeline would have bisected Nebraska, its fragile Sandhills and the massive Ogallala Aquifer as it pumped Albert, Canada, tar sands oil to American refineries along the Gulf of Mexico.

Broken Bow High School presented Drama and Dessert last Friday and tackled a tough subject at the same time. Their production of the one-act drama “Turning Points,” provided a startling glimpse into teenage alcohol abuse. Proceeds from the evening went toward the 2012 One Act production. LINCOLN — The Nebraska Legislature got one step closer to enacting new pipeline laws last week as they closed the first round of committee hearings that opened debate on five bills.
As of Thursday, Nov. 10, just one bill has so far been voted into first-round debate on the Unicameral floor, Schuyler Sen. Chris Langemeier’s Legislative Bill 4. Committees have not yet voted on the four other pipeline bills.
Lorraine O. G'Schwind, 91, of Callaway, passed away Monday, Nov. 7, 2011, at Good Samaritan Center in Callaway. She was born Aug. 8, 1920, at Merna, to Arthur and Hulda (Nitz) Hirsch.
Lorraine attended Wayside country school and graduated from Merna High School with the class of 1937. She was united in marriage to Herbert Arthur G'Schwind Oct. 30, 1939, at Merna. The couple lived on a farm near Callaway where their four children were born.
Margaret Fern "Peg" Newton, 87, of Callaway, died Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011, at Callaway District Hospital. She was born Aug. 31, 1924, at Callaway, to Ralph and Elsie (Myers) Miller.
Peg graduated from Callaway High School in 1942, and attended and graduated from Business College in Hastings. She met Billy Richard Newton in a bowling alley. They were married six weeks later, June 8, 1947. March 8, 1948, they had a son, Dennis Arthur "Fig" Newton and four years later Brenda Lea Newton Clements was born, Feb. 24, 1952.
Amber L. (Maixner) Ransom, 33 of Marengo, Iowa, died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011. Memorial services were held at Hus Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Additional Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011, at Wescott Baptist Church in Comstock, with the Rev. Don Schauda officiating. Burial will be in the Douglas Grove Cemetery near Comstock.
There will be no visitation. All Faiths Funeral Home of Grand Island is
serving the family.
