Jenna Cate Holm

February 25, 2011

Jenna Cate Holm was born Oct. 14, 2010, to Jim and Tina Holm at Good Sarmaritan Hospital in Kearney. Jenna weighed 8 pounds 12 ounces and was 22 inches long. She is joined at home by a brother, Caden, and sister, Alison. Proud grandparents are Bob and Ann Holm of Mason Cit, and Daryl and Jan McCaslin of North Platte.

Holly Hammerschmidt & Michael Neth

Michael Neth and Holly Hammerschmidt announce their engagement and approaching marriage. A May 7, 2011 wedding is planned in Manhattan, Kansas. Parents of the couple are Marvin and Barbara Neth of Callaway, and Roger and Nancy Hammerschmidt of Manhattan, Kansas.

Alice Marie Dow & Roger Eugene Olson

Alice Marie Dow, and Roger Eugene Olson, both of North Platte, are happy to announce their engagement and approaching marriage. The bride-to-be is a 1989 graduate of Alma High School, and is the daughter of Mary Dow of North Platte. Alice is currently employed at Wendy’s Restaurant in North Platte.
The groom is a 1985 graduate of Sargent High School, and a 1987 graduate of Mid-Plains Community College in North Platte, with an associates degree in electronics. He is the son of Jean Olson of Broken Bow. Roger is currently employed at KJLT Radio in North Platte.

Public hearing nets few questions

Nebraska Public Power intends to build 115,000-volt transmission line to connect the 80 megawatt planned wind farm to the substation south of Broken Bow.
Tuesday evening a public hearing was conducted to give, among others, land owners a chance to ask how they will be compensated for their inconvenience and their property.
The projected cost of the nine mile line is $5.5 millions.

Arnold, Callaway vote to combine prom

CALLAWAY/ARNOLD - As school funds become harder and harder to come by, many rural schools are finding innovative ways to try and save money. For a number of area schools that fat-trimming has come in the way of consolidating athletic programs. For two area high schools, however, that consolidation has gone one step further.
This spring, students and Arnold High School and Callaway High School will be attending the same Prom - and it was the students idea.

Area teams fall in boys subdistricts

VARIOUS SITES -- Five area boys basketball teams saw their season end with disappointment. In the Class D2-7 subdistrict, Litchfield’s season ended in overtime when Loomis made a 3-point basket with 4.5 seconds to take the lead 61-60. Litchfield’s last chance was a full court pass that was intercepted by Loomis who ran out the clock. In the other semifinal game, Pleasanton easily handled the SEM Mustangs winning 59-34. Dillon Line led the Mustangs with 19 points followed by Quinten Malcom with 9, Andrey Gallegos 2, John O’Neill 2 and Lance English 2.

County hires: New faces, New positions

Effective March 1 there will be some new faces behind the titles. Tuesday, the Custer County Board of Supervisors hired Shawn Owens as the new Emergency Manager/Weed Superintendent. This is the first time the job description has covered both jobs.
Current Weed Superintendentdent/Zoning Administrator Larry Gibbens has accepted a position with the Nebraska Board of Lands, the organization that manages and oversees the states’ educational land holdings.

Boys Subdistricts begin tonight

The boys basketball post season begins tonight with five area teams in action tonight. In the Class C2-10 subdistrict at Kearney Catholic, three teams, Ravenna, Arapahoe and Shelton are rated among the Top 10 in C2. Also in the district is South Loup (13-6) who plays Burwell (16-4) at 7 p.m. tonight with the winner advancing to play top seed Ravenna (17-5) Tuesday night. Also Tuesday, Arapahoe (20-3) plays Shelton (19-2).

Fenske wins gold, Claflin settles for silver

Sargent/Burwell's Jed Fenske was one of 15 area wrestlers to win a medal at the State Wrestling Tournament. Fenske's medal earned him the title of 'State Champion' as he won the Class C 145 pound class.
Sumner-Eddyville-Miller's Traven Claflin also wrestled for a state championship at 160 pounds in Class D. Claflin settled for the silver medal as runner up after losing a 10-2 major decision to State Champion Bryce Dibbern from Amherst.

STATE CHAMPIONS!!!

The Broken Bow High School cheerleading squad brought home the state championship trophy following Saturday's State High Cheer & Dance Championships in Grand Island. Broken Bow was crowned state champs in the Class C Sideline Division. Members of the squad are Emily Smallcomb, Nicole Evans, Ashly Raff, Nathan Geranis, Shamra Fritsch, Shelby Allen, Bridget Behrends, Neleigh Hall, Sami Gaston and Emilee Franssen.
