KEARNEY -- The 2011 high school track season is officially underway. This past weekend five area teams began their season at the UNK Indoor meet. South Loup participated in the Class C field Friday while Anselmo-Merna, Ansley, Loup County and Sargent participated in the Class D field.
The South Loup boys finished third to first place Wood River and second place Alma. The Bobcat 4x400-meter relay team was the only first place medalist for South Loup with a 3:51.34 time. Running the relay were Aaron Stryker, Tanner Cline, Taylor Linegar and Zane Ellis.
Dan and Lisa Spanel of Broken Bow, would like to announce the engagement and upcoming wedding of their daughter, Samantha Spanel, to K.C. Livermore, son of Doug and Vicki Livermore of Sioux City, Iowa.
Samantha is a 2009 graduate of Southeast Community College in Lincoln in the dental assisting program. She is a dental assistant in Sioux City, Iowa.
K.C. is a 2007 graduate of Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa receiving a bachelor's degree in business-marketing. He is employed as an insurance adjuster.
A May 7 wedding is planned in Broken Bow.
Brian and Rhonda Smith of Loveland, Colo., and Ken and Jill Pitkin of Callaway, announce the upcoming marriage of their children, Leisha LaurÃ©n Smith and Ryan James Pitkin.
Leisha is a 2004 graduate of Columbine High School in Littleton, Colo., and a 2010 graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with bachelor of arts degrees in English and German. She is currently seeking her teaching certificate and masters of education from Doane College in Lincoln.
Brooke Meston and James Lashley, both of Friona, Texas, announce their engagement and upcoming wedding June 11, 2011, at the Warm Swamp Ranch near Eddyville.
Parents of the bride are Bill and Joan Watson of Westerville, and Bob and Pam Case of Guernsey, Wyo. Parents of the groom are Darrel and Sheryl Dockweiler, and Jerry and Pam Lashley of Eddyville.
Patricia R. "Patty" Mostek, 41, of Loup City, died Monday, March 14, 2011, at her home, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Services were March 18, at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City with the Rev. Barbara L. Spangler officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City. Peters Funeral Home of Loup City was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Mostek was born July 11, 1969, at Callaway, the daughter of Mark T. and Pamela J. (Reed) Pearson. She was united in marriage to Chuck W. Mostek Nov. 17, 1984, at Phillipsburg, Kansas.
Darrel D. Clark died March 14, 2011, in Sargent at his home following a lengthy illness.
Darell was born Jan. 6, 1935, to Allen and Louisa J. (Daugherty) Clark at Round Valley, the youngest of six children. He attended elementary school at Weissert, Round Valley and attened high school in Sargent and Broken Bow.
He enlisted in the United States Army April 22, 1954. He served in Korea with Company A 51st Signal Battalion Corps until Feb. 9, 1956. He was in the Reserves until 1962. Darrel received the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
Charline C. Bendig, 90, of Kearney, died Monday, March 14, 2011 at Mt. Carmel Home Keens Memorial. A memorial mass was Tuesday, March 22, at Mt. Carmel Chapel in Kearney with the Rev. Tom Mullowney officiating. Interment was at the Newport Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Carmel Home Keens Memorial in Kearney. On-line condolences may be submitted to osafh.com. Garnet R. Wright was born Oct. 10, 1926, at Mason City, the oldest child of Ed and Atha (Guthrie) Wright. Garnet started his school years northeast of Mason City.
Most of his school years were in town and he graduated from Mason City High School in 1944. After graduation he spent the summer working on the railroad crew while waiting to be called up to serve in the Navy Air Corps. He spent two years in the service and in 1946 he came to Broken Bow and started working in the Gambles Store.
Ray Lewandowski, 79, of Litchfield, died Thursday, March 17, 2011, at his home in Litchfield. Services were Monday, March 21, at St. Gabrielâ€™s Church in Hazard with the Rev. Martin Egging officiating. Burial was in the Litchfield Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Litchfield Fire Department or St. Gabrielâ€™s Altar Society. Rasmussen Funeral Home in Ravenna was in charge of arrangements.
Ray Lewandowski was born Decc 17, 1931, in Sherman County, to John and Barbara (Kaminski) Lewandowski. He was educated in Litchfield and graduated from Litchfield High School in 1949.
Mary M. Lane, age 88 of Lincoln, formerly of the Callaway Broken Bow area died Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at Gramercy Hill in Lincoln. Funeral services were March 25, 2011, at the Berean Fundamental Church in Broken Bow with Pastor Larry DeMoss and Pastor Steve Selfridge officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Callaway. Memorials may be made to the Berean Church, Homeward Trails, or the Grace Community Evangelical Free in Lincoln.
Mary Mildred Lane was born November 12, 1922, near Callaway, Nebraska to Bryan R. and Anna (Pitkin) Price.
