DUNNING -- The Sandhills/Thedford Knights are making their second straight appearance in the Boys State Basketball Tournament since their co-op in the fall of 2008. The Knights were defeated in the first round last season by Freeman.
Before the co-op, Sandhills made four appearances in the state tournament and Thedford had made 13 appearances.
The Knights (16-7) open the state tournament as the No. 7 seed and will meet No. 2 seed Howells (22-2).
MULLEN -- The Mullen Broncos set a goal this season to qualify for the state tournament for the first time since 1952. After last weeks district championship win over Hay Springs, the Broncos achieved this goal.
âThis is the first time since 1952 that Mullen has made an appearance in the state tournament,â said Mullen head coach Rusty Moore. âThat has been a focus point for us all season, we have â1952â printed on the back of our warm up shirts.â
Basketball fans, âMarch Madnessâ is underway! Last weekend, the high school girls state basketball tournament was held. In some of the classes, the top seeds made it all the way to the championship game while others stumbled on the way. Nothing is a given when it comes to championship basketball especially in March.
The girls Class A bracket played out as it should have with Bellevue East coming back late in the game to steal the win from Bellevue West 52-49 for the state championship.
