The Custer Co. Area APA Pool Leagues are now accepting team registrations for the upcoming Summer Session.
Registration deadline is Thursday, May 5th. Play begins in May and runs through August.
APA Pool Leagues that are available include Monday Open 8-Ball and Thursday Open 9-Ball. Other formats include Masters (no handicap), Ladies 8-Ball and Family 8-Ball (no age limit).
SUTHERLAND -- The Mullen Lady Broncos hit the trifecta sweeping all three relays for gold at the Wallace Invite in Sutherland. The three wins helped the Lady Broncos score 113 points to win the team title. In the boys division, the Broncos placed second in each of the three relays and finished second in the team standings behind Paxton.
GOTHENBURG -- The Sandhills/Thedford Knightâs track team participated in the Brady-Gothenburg Invite last Thursday. The Lady Knights scored 68 points for third place behind Brady and Maxwell. The Knight boys team placed fifth with 17 points.
Double medal winners in individual eventĂąs for the Lady Knights were Danya Mintle in the 100 and 200 meter dashes, Sarah Miles in the 100 and 400 meter dashes, Valerie Matulka in the 800 and 1600 meter runs, Jacy Spencer in the 300 meter hurdles and high jump, and Chantelle Milleson in the shot put and discus.

Broken Bow High School graduate, National Guard soldier, PFC Brad Wardyn currently calls Mosul, Iraq, home. Heâs a medic with the 2-135th GSAB stationed out of Lincoln.
âIt is my job to render the needed aid while an injured soldier is transported to a hospital,â said Wardyn. He was back in Broken Bow this week visiting family for âmid tourâ break.
In 2008, as a high school senior he enlisted for the money, he hates now to admit. He wanted the funds to help pay for college. He says things have changed, now he says he intends to stay for the mission.

Robert Rudolph Ruzicka, 81, of Taylor, died April 26, 2011 at his home. The family will have a memorial service Friday, April 29, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Bobâs home in Taylor, with a celebration of his life to follow. Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell is in charge of arrangements.
Bob was born June 6, 1929, at Taylor to Emil and Anna (Hulinsky) Ruzicka. He grew up at Taylor and Burwell and attended Burwell Public School.
The AAU Middle School National Wrestling Duals were held at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa April 9-10. Scott Davis competed for the Nebraska team (team Huskerland) in the 250 lb. weight class. Davisâs individual dual record of 5 wins and 3 losses qualified him for All-American honors. The tournament consisted of 34 teams from 15 states, the Huskerland team was the winner of the Copper Division. Davis earned his spot on the team by winning the AAU Nebraska State Tournament held in Hastings last March.
THEDFORD -- The Mullen Broncos were the team champions of the Sandhills/ Thedford Knight Golf Invite. The Broncos were led by Jared Spurlinâs 87 and Allan Elliotâs 88. The two golfers placed second and third in the individual standings behind Burwellâs Austin Svoboda.
The home team, Knights, captured second place while South Loup placed third. Both teams also placed two golfers among the Top 10 individual leaders. In the Top 10 for the Knights were Shayne Rodocker and Colton Schroeder. Clint Schneringer and Lane Gascoigne both landed in the Top 10 for the South Loup Bobcats.

HERSHEY -- The South Loup Bobcat boys track team claimed the top prize at the Hershey Invite and had two participants set meet records. The Bobcats won the team title with 112.75 points with North Platte St. Patrickâs finishing second with 90 points. Drew Bowers set a new meet record in shot put with a 48-5 throw and Logan Glendy set the new meet record in the 300 meter hurdles with a 41.50 second time. Glendy also won the 110 meter hurdles and place fourth in pole vault.
Dan Lupo, age 73 of Ansley, died April 19, 2011 at his home in Ansley.
Funeral services were April 22, in Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow with the Rev. Mel Shepherd officiating. Burial was in the Ansley Cemetery with Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be given to the family.
Danny Dean Lupo was born July 27, 1937, in North Platte, to Sam and Bessie (Ziegenbien) Lupo.
Ronald D. Templin, age 54, of Broken Bow and Berwyn communities died Friday, April 22, 2011 at the Golden Living Center in Broken Bow.
Memorial funeral services were April 27,. at the United Methodist Church in Broken Bow with the Rev. Todd Karges officiating. Inurnment was at the Janesville Cemetery at Berwyn. Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow was in charge of arrangements.
Ronald D. Templin was born March 7, 1957, to Martin O. and Bernice (Boysen) Templin. He lived most of his life in the Broken Bow and Berwyn area, working for Wood Options in Broken Bow.
