KEARNEY -- The Ansley Lady Warriors claimed five first place medals and three seconds to edge Burwell by five points for the girls team title at the Dick OâNeill Track Invitational in Kearney Friday. The annual meet is hosted by Pleasanton and is held at Kearney High School.

BROKEN BOW -- The Broken Bow Indian golf team put in 18 holes of work this past week. The Indians traveled to Holdrege last week and finished in second place at the Holdrege Triangular with Cozad.
Broken Bowâs Tanner Johnson shot the low round with a 41 which was one stroke better than Holdregeâs Caleb Ostgren. Nate Hanson shot a 47 for the second best 9-hole score among the Indian golfers.
This past Tuesday, the Indians hosted Gothenburg at the Broken Bow Country Club.

ARNOLD -- The Sargent Bulldog boys and girls track teams each won gold in 10 events to sweep the team titles at the Mullen Invite in Arnold. The Lady Bulldogs edged the Mullen Lady Broncos by two points, 111-109, while the Bulldog boys cruised to a 43 point win over second place Mullen.

Four area basketball players have been selected to All-State teams released by two of Nebraskaâs largest newspaper publications.
Three area players landed on the Omaha World Heraldâs list of All-Staters. Mullen senior Gabe Connealy, who averaged 18.1 points per game, was chosen to the Class D2 first team. Ansley junior Siera Rohde, who averaged 11.6 points per game, was chosen to the Class D2 girls second team. Selected to the boys All-State second team in Class D1 was Sandhills/Thedford senior Kale Anderson, who averaged 22.6 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.

Itâs been a long time coming, but on Monday, April 4, the city of Broken Bow officially broke ground on a new swimming pool and aquatic center. The citizens of Broken Bow approved a bond for the new pool last May.
âThis all started seven years ago when we had some major issues with the pool. and the water level in the pool dropped six inches during a single swim meet. Jason White and I started talking. We thought the pool only had a couple of years left,â remarked Broken Bow City Council Scott Spanel.

Plans are underway for an almost $2 million renovation and expansion project for Ansley Public Schools.
Most of the project will be funded with Build America Bonds, and according to Superintendent Mike McCabe the community shouldnât notice any tax increase.
The project idea has been about a year in the making. With the current gymnasium being used as a multi-purpose room, cafeteria, after school practices and indoor recess, it is difficult to accommodate everything.
McCabe has concerns with students having to travel home after waiting to use the gym for practices.

Three men faced sentencing in Custer County District Court last week in separate drinking and driving cases, and two of the three received time in the Nebraska Department of Corrections.
Kyle D. McLaughlin, 56 of Broken Bow, was sentenced by Judge Karin Noakes to 12-15 months in prison. He was charged with Driving Under the Influence-4th offense, a Class III felony. Before being sentenced, McLaughlin addressed the court apologizing for his behavior and recent actions.
Steve Hanna is living proof that the organ donation system works. Undergoing a transplant, for Hanna, is nothing new.
Nine years ago, while visiting his sister in New Mexico, Hanna woke up with pain in his chest that was moving into his shoulder.
With the nearest hospital two hours away, Hannaâs sister Sharon, didnât want to waste any time. They called ahead, letting the EMTâs know what was going on and met them in route.
