Nicholas Lee "Nick" Ryan was born on a bright Sunday morning, Jan. 18, 1981, in Kearney, to Randy and Shirley Ryan. Nick departed this life July 18, 2011, from a hiking accident along the Grinnell Glacier Trail in Montana’s Glacier National Park.
Nick grew up on the family farm north of Overton. Nick seemed to instinctively have a sense of adventure. Early days were spent riding bikes, horses, playing ball and just looking at things for a time, taking them apart to see how they worked and then reassembling them.

Bob Edelman, 73

Bob Edelman, age 73 of Kansas, formerly of Merna, died Monday, July 18, 2011, at the Shawnee Mission Medical Center in Shawnee Mission, Kansas.
Funeral services were Saturday, July 23, 2011 in Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow, with the Rev. Doug Jones officiating. Burial was in the Hillcrest Cemetery at Thedford, with Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow in charge of arrangements.

Broken Bow wins area championship; open against Seward in state playoffs

GOTHENBURG--Broken Bow beat McCook and won the B-6 Area Championship in Gothenburg. Broken Bow needed to beat McCook twice and they did just that. Broken Bow won the first game 12-2 after five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule paving the way for a winner-take-all championship game. In the second game Broken Bow continued where they left off and won 11-0 after five innings again due to the 10-run mercy rule.
