The Mullen Lady Broncos became the 2011 Loup Valley Conference champions last Friday night. The Lady Broncos edged the Ansley Lady Warriors 53-52 for the girlâ€™s championship while the Trojans held on for a 53-45 win over the Mullen Broncos for the boyâ€™s championship.
Stanley Evald Wenquist, 64 of Broken Bow, passed away Feb. 6, 2011, at the Jennie M. Melham Medical Center. Funeral services were Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011, at the United Methodist Church in Broken Bow.
Stanley Evald Wenquist was born Oct. 18, 1946, in Grand Island, to Inna (Koebel) and Evald Wenquist. He was a life- long resident of Broken Bow. He attended and graduated from Broken Bow High School with the class of 1964.
He was married to Judith Gardner Aug. 14, 1966. They had two children; James Daniel and Jenifer Ellen.
Leland McAbee, age 84 of Broken Bow, died Thursday Feb. 3, 2011, at the Golden Living Center in Broken Bow. Funeral services were Saturday, Feb. 5, at Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Broken Bow with Minister Kathy Salts and Minister Jim Gonzales officiating. Burial was in the Broken Bow Cemetery with Military Honors with Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow in charge of arrangements. Memorials have been suggested to the Our Saviour Lutheran Church.
Willda Idell Crone Diefenbaugh was born Sept. 2, 1923, at home in Brown County, Mary, Nebraska. She was the seventh of 12 children born to Evan and Minnie Marie (Blumenthal) Crone.
Willda grew up on the ranch 17 miles north of Brewster and attended Brown County Country School #34, that her Dad built. She attended three years of high school in Brewster and graduated from Dunning High School.
Willda and Junior Neale Diefenbaugh were married June 28, 1944, at the Custer County Courthouse in Broken Bow. To this union were born four children: Michael, Joan, Yvonne, and Debra.
Victor William Watts, 92, went to meet his Lord Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, at Good Samaritan Health Care Center with his wife of 57 years, Claudia, and his daughters, Lynn and Judith, at his side.
He was born Nov. 20, 1918, at Cumro, one of four sons and one daughter, of William H. and Elizabeth (Cherry) Watts. Vic and Claudia were married Sept. 5, 1953, at Lexington.
Donald Clayton (Sam) Brannan, 91, died at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte Feb. 2,2011. He was born Sept. 11, 1919, at Red Cloud to Clarence and Opal (Eggleston) Brannan.
He went to grade school in southern Cherry County, and one year of high school in Medicine Bow, Wyo. His parents separated when he was 14.
He spent his teen years working on ranches in the Mullen area. Most of the time at the Eck Cox ranch, where he was given the nickname of â€śSam.â€ť
Don E. Roth, 86 of Arnold, died Jan. 25, 2011, at Stone Hearth Estates in Gothenburg. Donald Everett Roth was born to William and Clara (Erb) Roth in rural Seward County, Jan. 30, 1924. He passed away Jan. 25, 2011.
He attended rural schools in Seward and Custer County through eighth grade. In his early teens, Don was baptized in a Mennonite Church near Broken Bow, where the family attended.
Riley and Christie Jones of Sumner are pleased to announce the birth of their daughter, Kyler Lynnae Jones, born Jan. 21, 2011, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Kyler weighed 7 pounds 14 ounces and was 21 1/2 inches long. She is welcomed home by brothers Reece and Maddox. Grandparents of Kyler are Margie and the late Bill Warren of Kearney, and Judy and the late Don Jones of Mason City. Great-grandparents are Wanda Trussell of Kearney, and Joe Hladky of Litchfield.
The parents of Kimberly Pierce and Aaron Ideus are happy to announce the engagement of their children and upcoming marriage this June. Kimberly Pierce graduated from Callaway High School in 2007. She will graduate from Doane College with a degree in Biochemistry this May. She plans to pursue a medical degree. Her parents are Ken Pierce of Oconto, and Kay Pierce of Callaway. Aaron Ideus graduated from Free State High School, Lawrence, Kansas in 2006. He graduated from Doane College in May 2010, with degrees in Economics and Mathematics. He is currently employed in the Kansas City area.
Robert and Corinne Andreasen of Merna would like to announce the engagement and upcoming wedding of their daughter, Katie Lynn Andreasen, to Dustin Edward Florian, son of Charles Florian of Milburn. Kate is a 2008 graduate of Anselmo-Merna High School and is currently a senior at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, pursuing a bachelor of arts degree in fashion merchandising and marketing. Dustin is a 2005 graduate of Anselmo-Merna High School and a graduate of Southeast Community College in Milford with an associates degree in electronic systems technology.
