NSAA announces 2012-2013 football schedules;Broken Bow and Ord to compete in C1-8 district

The NSAA released the 2012-2013 football schedules. For the first time in recent memory the Indians will compete with Ord for a district title. The Indians open their 2012 at home against Ogallala. Also, there will only be four D2 school competing in the area. With the co-op between Ansley/Litchfield and Twin Loup (Loup County/Sargent) they move up to D1. Anselmo-Merna, Mullen, Sandhills/Thedford and SEM. (S/T dropped down from D1 to D2) will play at the D2 level. Area games of interest include Twin Loup vs. South Loup, Mullen vs. Sandhills/Thedford, SEM vs.

PTA launches Box Tops For Education

The Broken Bow PTA has announced the launch of their 2011-2012 Box Tops for Education fundraising campaign. This year the school has set a goal of earning $2,000 through Box Tops to support the Kids of Character Program. Last year the Box Tops program earned over $1,900 for the program. All money earned through this program is issued directly to the Broken Bow School.

Bow schools hire new leader

Mark Sievering has accepted the position of Superintendent at Broken Bow Public Schools, following a second round of interviews in the district last week. The contract with Sievering was expected to be finalized this week.
Sievering has been the superintendent at Conestoga Public Schools in southeast Nebraska since 2003. He has also been a superintendent at Franklin Public Schools and was the superintendent/principal at Arthur County High School in Arthur.

Mammograms save lives

Karen Ibach of Ansley considers herself lucky. A little over a year ago, Karen was diagnosed with breast cancer - but thanks to a routine mammogram it was caught in the very earliest stage, and because of that she is a breast cancer survivor.
Karen has always been diligent about having annual mammograms and doing self exams. She has had her mammogram every year in November for the past 30 years, and until 2010 all had been normal.

Tara (Ellis) and Jared King, of Lincoln, proudly announce the birth of a baby boy, Easton Matthew King. Easton was born Jan. 6, 2012, at Bryan LGH East. Grandparents are Mike and Kathy Kettleborough of Broken Bow, Brad and Traci Ellis of Omaha, and Kenny and Deanna King of Glenwood, Iowa.
Great-grandparents are Warren and Mardelle Ellis of Broken Bow, Bob and Laurel Pracht of Sun City, Ariz., Karen and Larry Millikin of Colorado Springs, Colo., Glen Kettleborough of Anselmo, and Lillian Kettleborough of Broken Bow.

Paisley Joy Seda

Stephanie Linden and Riley Seda, of Anselmo, proudly announce the birth of a daughter, Paisley Joy Seda. Paisley was born Jan. 15, 2012, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. She weighed 9 pounds 2 ounces and was 22 inches long. Proud grandparents are Asher and Irene Linden, and Roger and Sue Seda.

Dirk Franzen and Jennie Kuta, of Ord, are proud to announce the arrival of their son, Dexter Wayne Franzen. He was born Nov. 20, 2011 at 5:08 p.m. at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. He weighed 7 pounds 14 ounces and was 20 1/2 inches long. Dexter is welcomed home by big sister, Haley. His grandparents are Hunter and Pam Goldsby of Berwyn, John and Barb Kuta of Loup City, Jason and Cindy Gates of Broken Bow, and the late Wayne Franzen.

Lynn and Missy Holt of Thedford are pleased to announce the engagement and upcoming marriage of their son, Alan Michael, to Jessica Sue McClure, daughter of Susan McClure of Aurora, and Michael McClure of Lincoln.
Alan is a 2007 graduate of Sandhills High School in Dunning, and is currently a fifth year senior at the University of Nebraska-Kearney, majoring in business administration, economics emphasis. He will graduate May 4, 2012.

James R. Franssen, 71

James R. Franssen, age 71 of Broken Bow, died Sunday Jan. 29, 2012 at Bryan LGH in Lincoln.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Broken Bow with Father Jim Hunt officiating. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 8 a.m. to service time at St. Josephs Catholic Church. A memorial will be designated by the family at a later date.
James R. Franssen was born March 18, 1940, in Andale, Kan., to Herman Franssen and Marcella Goetz-Franssen. He moved with his family to Callaway in 1947.

Brenda Minton, 59

Brenda Jean Minton, 59, died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012, at her home in Merna. Brenda was born Dec. 27, 1952, at the Callaway Hospital to Joseph “Joe" and Betty Jean (Ault) Lindner of Oconto, and was baptized at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oconto.
At the age of four, Brenda left Nebraska and moved with her family to Utah and then Mesa Ariz. Brenda married Charles "Chuck" Minton May 8, 1979, in Las Vegas, Nev. To this union two sons were born; Martin Leonard and Michael Lee.
ln the mid-90s, Chuck and Brenda moved back to Nebraska into Brenda’s Grandma Lindner's house in Merna.
