When Broken Bow’s Superintendent of Schools resigned in May 2010, the school board faced the tough challenge of trying to find a replacement on short notice. That late in the year is not a good time to begin a search for a school superintendent for the fall, so the board - with the help of the Nebraska Association of School Boards - made the decision to hire an interim superintendent for one year, to give them more time to conduct a proper search for a full time administrator.
Cody Schmick is the newest member of Broken Bow’s City Council. He was sworn in Feb. 24, taking a seat as a representative of the West Ward vacated by the death of Jim Franssen.
Schmick said he is pleased to be able to serve. Relatively new to Broken Bow, he had been looking for a place not just to volunteer, but to be useful.
“Owning a business in town, I know the uphill battle our business owners are fighting,” he said. Schmick, 28, moved to Broken Bow when his family purchased a local grocery store and opened Schmick’s Market in October 2010.
