Hey guys, just in case you didn’t catch Ellen’s article on the front page, I’m going to take this opportunity to further introduce myself.
I recently took over as the sports editor for the Chief and I’ll tell you I’m thrilled to be here.
Unlike Dennis Driscoll, the former sports editor, I didn’t go to high school here. All of your faces and names are going to be new to me.
I’m originally from Omaha. I grew up there and graduated from Millard North High School. Needless to say this small town is a definite switch for me, but I find it starting to grow on me already.

Next week, Marrch 19 - 23, is National Severe Weather Awareness Week. Area citizens had an opportunity to learn more about severe weather awareness and some of the agencies who make it their goal to both keep us safe and help in times of disaster or emergency, at a special program Tuesday evening in the Broken Bow High School Gym.

Jason Lichtenberger, 19 of Broken Bow, was sentenced to three years probation in Custer County District Court Thursday. Lichtenberger was charged with attempted sexual assault of a minor, a Class III felony.
In handing down her sentence Judge Karin Noakes noted that reports indicate the defendant is at “low risk to re-offend and is a good candidate for probation.”

Bradin Sterling Nash

Sarah Sands and Richard Nash proudly announce the birth of their son, Bradin Sterling Nash, born Dec. 16, 2011 at Lufkin Memorial Hospital in Lufkin, Texas. Bradin weighed 7 pounds 14 ounces, and was 19 1/2 inches long. He joins half-sisters Brianna, Alyssa, Hannah, McKenzie and Lyndsey.

Amy Rosentreader & Nicholas Jacobson

Barry and Tracy Rosentreader of Mason City, and Daniel and Linda Jacobson of Broken Bow, would like to announce the engagement and upcoming marriage of their children, Amy S. Rosentreader and Nicholas R. Jacobson. Amy is a 2006 graduate of Ansley High School. She is currently employed at Sargent Irrigation Co. in Broken Bow. Nicholas is a 2006 graduate of Broken Bow High School. He is currently employed at IES Industrial in Holdrege.
The couple plans to be married April 28, 2012, at the First Presbyterian Church in Broken Bow.

Jennifer Howard and Randy Nielsen, both of Broken Bow, would like to announce their engagement and upcoming wedding. Jennifer is the daughter of Greg and JoAnne Sadler of Callaway. She is a 1993 graduate of Holdrege High School. She is currently emplooyed at Central Nebraska Medical Clinic in Broken Bow. Randy is the son of Richard and Javene Nielsen of Broken Bow. He is a 1987 graduate of Broken Bow High School. Randy has been employed with Berggren Home Builders for 22 years.

Krista Kaps & Shane Scott

Steve and Wilma Kaps of Arcadia are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Krista, to Shane Scott, son of Duane and JoAnn Scott of Arcadia. Krista is a 2007 graduate from Arcadia Public School, and a 2011 graduate from Peru State College with a bachelor of science in elementary education. She is currently substitute teaching. Shane is a 2006 graduate from Arcadia Public School, and a 2009 graduate from Mid-Plains Community College with an associates of art degree. He is employed with Berggren Home Builders and part-time at UPS.

Carolyn "Carrie" Witte, 63

Carolyn Lea 'Carrie' Witte, 63, of North Platte, died Feb. 29, 2012, surrounded by family at her lakeside home in North Platte.
Carrie was born Nov. 15, 1948, to Herbert Napoleon, Jr. and Pearl Marie Karnes Stevens in Merna. She graduated from Anselmo-Merna High School then earned a bachelor of science degree in Home Economics (Consumer Science and the Family) from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1971.

Daniel Bradford, 55

Daniel Paul Bradford, age 55, (spouse Twila Pracht Bradford) of Pharr, Texas, entered the presence of the Lord he loved and served on Feb. 17, 2012. Now “absent from the body and present with the Lord,” he is sorely missed by friends and family who look forward to one day rejoicing with him around God’s throne.

Dorothy Dobesh, 93

Life’s journey came to an end for Dorothy Mae Kimball Dobesh Feb., 23, 2012.
She was the fifth of six children born to Bertie Frank Kimball and Mabel Clair House Kimball May 1, 1918, on a farm outside Berwyn. Her family called her “Little Dubs” because she was so small.
She attended a one-room schoolhouse and delighted in sitting on the front bench with her older brother, Bill. She graduated from Ansley High School, where she was an outstanding student, excelling in writing, poetry and art.
