More than 100 American Legion Riders gathered in Broken Bow this past weekend for the organization's State Romp. Sunday morning, the group held a special tribute at the Broken Bow Cemetery, where they conducted a wreath laying ceremony in honor of Michael Doheny, former Marine killed in Iraq in 2007.

Broken Bow's senior baseball team improved to 6-1 on the season with a sweep of McCook on Saturday. They won the first game 3-2 and the second game by the score of 8-2. Pitcher Kirby Pomplun took a no-hitter into the top of the 7th in the first game before McCook answered with two runs. The game ended on a Jake McCormick single up the middle to win it for Broken Bow. For more coverage, check out the June 14th edition of the Custer County Chief.

ANSLEY - - In honor of its 125-year anniversary, Ansley’s annual Muddy Creek Celebration will be bigger and better than ever this year. Activities are planned for June 8 - 12, with a dance and poker tournament kicking things off Friday. The 60-seat maximum poker tournament begins at 7 p.m., while the Brown Daisy Dance for youth entering 7-12 grade will be from 8-12.

Shirley Trotter, age 70 of Broken Bow, died June 5, 2012, at the Jennie Melham Medical Center in Broken Bow. Funeral services will be Saturday, June 9, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness' in Broken Bow with Terrence Ristov officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. Interment will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.
Myra Moon, age 92, was born at Milburn, May 15, 1920, to John Thomas Huffman and Mary Ellen Farley Huffman.She was the youngest of eight children. At the age of seven she started school. She played basketball and softball and enjoyed sports.She graduated in 1939 from Milburn. After she graduated she did waitress work. She married George Nekuda in Broken Bow in 1941. Their children are Gary Nekuda and Darro Nekuda. In 1953, she married Woodrow "Bus" Moon. In 1958, they had a son, Casey Moon. They lived in the Cumings Park Community until 1994.
Zane Harvey died June 1, 2012 as a result of a tragic accident while driving a school van filled with the Broken Bow boys basketball team back home from a basketball camp.
Born Jan 8, 1974 in Broken Bow, to Robert and Monica (Scott) Harvey, Zane grew up in Stapleton, and graduated from Stapleton High School in 1992. During high school he spent the summers working on the Diamond Bar Ranch.
Anthony Dale Blum, 24 years of age from Broken Bow, formerly of the Hildreth-Minden area, died Friday, June 1, 2012, as a result of a traffic accident near Ansley.
Anthony was born Aug. 8, 1987, in Minden, to Dale and Jane (Schwartz) Blum. He grew up in the Hildreth-Minden area and graduated from Minden High School in 2006. Anthony attended the University of Nebraska at Kearney and graduated from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln with a bachelor's degree in business education.
Albert F Sherbeck was born Aug. 29, l94l, to Melvin H and Eileen (Hickenbottom) Sher-beck of rural Ansley. He went home to his Heavenly Father June 1, 2012, after a tragic motor vehicle accident.
Albert attended Ansley Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1959. While in high school, he participated in many sporting events and was an honor student. He would eventually give back to his Alma Mater by serving on the Ansley School Board of Education.
