Charles K. âSmokeyâ West, 83 of Kearney, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at his home. Funeral services were Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremat-ion Services in Kearney with the Rev. Dean Pofahl officiating. Burial was at the Pleasanton Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to AseraCare Hospice or to the family to be designated at a later date. A message of condolence, tribute or memory can be left at www.hlmkfuneral.com. Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremat-ion Services in Kearney are in charge of arrangements.
Columbus, Neb. â The Nebraska Public Power District plans to issue approximately $140 million of fixed-rate, tax-exempt bonds on October 29, 2013. The bond sale will include an order period for retail and institutional investors.
Proceeds from the bond sale will be used to refund a portion of the outstanding General Revenue Bonds. The proceeds will also be used to pay financing costs.
It is currently anticipated that the bonds will be issued in $5,000 denominations or any integral multiple thereof.

Halsey â The Bessey Ranger District campgrounds near Halsey have all been reopened for use as of Thursday. Because of the colder temperatures, the water to the showers and campsites at the main campground has been shut off to protect the system from freezing.
Ansley-Litchfield completed the 3-0 sweep of Twin Loup in the LVC Tournament final saturday, winning the tournament for the second straight season.

Broken Bow used a second half surge to beat O'Neill 26-14 Friday night.
The Indians got two touchdowns from Jeremy Christner and two from Zac Jones. Jones had a 33-yard touchdown run late in the game negated by a holding penalty.
The win gives coach Mike Garner his 7th district title and the 5th in 6th years.
