S-E-M defeats Elm Creek 2-1 (25-21, 18-25, 26-24) (Take 3rd place in FKC Tourney)
Broken Bow defeats Shelton 3-0 (25-13, 25-13, 25-14)

Broken Bow Volleyball defeats Shelton

Broken Bow earned its 10th win of the season Thursday night, defeating Shelton 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-13).

Krisha Scott and Julia Loy powered the offense with nine and eight kills respectively while the Indians got five from Jasmyn Brooks and four from Alexis Neely. Layna Garey and Rachel Gaston put in the digging work with 15 and 12 respectively. Morgan Hueftle kept things moving with 15 assists while Garey provided nine of her own.

The Indians next match will come at their home invite Oct. 22.

Jordan - Lott marry in Houston, Texas

Anita Alana Lott and Will Cody Jordan, both of Houston, Texas, were united in marriage Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at 7:00 in the evening at Holy Rosary Catholic Church of Houston. Deacon John Pelletier officiated the ceremony. David L. Paxton, cantor; Carolyn Mattax; organist, and Bruce R. Baxter, Jr., cousin of the bride, provided the music for the ceremony.

Royle Hazen, 68

Royle Dee Hazen, age 68, of Stromsburg, formerly of Milburn, passed away Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Henry Duerkson, 84

October 14, 2013

Henry George Duerkson, 84, of Broken Bow died Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, at the Golden Living Center in Broken Bow.
A Celebration of Life Service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, at the Mason City First Baptist Church with Pastor Roger McDermott officiating. There will be no visitation and the inurnment will be at a later date.
Henry was born Feb. 2, 1929, in Newton, Kan., to Henry B. and Lizzy (Geddert) Duerkson.
He was joined in Christian marriage to Dorothy Ann Adams Aug. 3, 1957, at Oakland Park Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kan.

Delbert Jacobsen, 76

Delbert James Jacobsen, 76, of Norwich, NY, formerly of Sargent, went home to be with his Savior Oct. 3, 2013, after a prolonged illness. At the time of his death, he was surrounded by his loving family.
Del was born in Minden, April 7, 1937, to Glenn and Iris Jacobsen. He graduated from Minden High School in 1955.

Lena Bratton, 89

October 14, 2013

Lena Elvina (Bradley) Bratton was born July 3, 1924, in Dothan, Huston County, Ala., to Carrie (Richardson) and Perry Bradley. Lena died Oct. 2, 2013, in Broken Bow.
Carrie and Perry had three children; Lena, Robert and Marion. When Lena was about 11-years-old, her daddy passed away. She had to quit school to care for her brother and sister so Carrie could work to feed the family.
Carrie met and married Henry Edgar and Lena gained two sisters, June and Jean Edgar. Also to this union, she eventually gained step-brothers Stewart, Charles, Johnny and Ballard.

Twin Loup Football routs Loup City

October 11, 2013

Twin Loup wasted no time in getting back on the winning track Friday night as they cruised to a 54-6 victory over Loup City.

Chett Hinton scored the first two touchdowns of the game before quarterback Jack Gibbens connected with Dexter Griebel on two consecutive drives for touchdown passes, putting the Wolves ahead by four scores.

Gibbens took it in himself from three-yards out in the third quarter before coach Mike Kozeal gave the backups some playing time.
