THEDFORD - - Saturday, Oct. 26, a ranch tour encompassing ranches in Cherry, Blaine and Thomas counties was held. This was the first tour organized by the Nebraska Cattlemen, Sandhills Affiliate (NCSA).
Officers of the NCSA - President Brenda Masek of Purdum, Vice-President Marc Ericksen of Mullen and Secretary-Treasurer Craig Miles of Brownlee - were on hand to greet the attendees at the first stop, TLC Ranch located northeast of Thedford. Sponsors assisting in the effort included Harsh Mercantile and Western Nebraska Bank of Purdum, and Pearson Livestock Equipment of Thedford.
Chandra and Austin Lewis of Meade, Kan., are proud to introduce the world to their son, Pace James Lewis, born Oct. 5, 2013. Pace was born at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal, Kan., weighing 6 pounds 8 ounces and measuring 21 3/4 inches in length. Pace is welcomed home by a sister, Kinslee. Also welcoming him are grandparents Mike and Carolyn Criss of Sargent, and Jim and Shari Lewis of Culbertson; great-grandparents, Nora and the late Bob Lewis of McCook, and Marv and Betty Harms of Culbertson, and great-great-grandmother, Evelyn Aden of Gothenburg.
Proud big sister, Ruby Mae, along with her parents Chris and Sarah Russell, announce the birth of Kenneth Reid Russell born at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Oct. 10, 2013. Kenny weighed 8 pounds 1 ounce and measured 20.5 inches long. Grandparents are Roger and Judy Russell of Broken Bow, Ken and Judy Fehringer of Peetz, Colo. Great-grandparents are Dona Russell of Broken Bow, Dorys Fehringer of Peetz, Colo., and Wilbur and Joyce Lucore of Grand Junction, Colo.
Rodger Dean Ritchie, age 64, of rural Broken Bow, died Nov. 3, 2013, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Aug. 14, 1949, at the family home west of Broken Bow to Charles J. "Doc" and Wanda L. (Cool) Ritchie. He and his brothers and sister grew up in the Union Valley Community. Rodger attended the Ryno country school through the 8th grade and was graduated from the Merna High School in 1968.
James E. Sharp, 73, of rural Burwell, was called home to join Godâ€™s Angel Army by his Lord and Savior Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell.
A Celebration of Life was held Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013, at the United Methodist Church in Burwell with Pastor Dennis Davenport officiating. A Private Masonic Graveside Service was at the Hillside Cemetery in North Loup. Memorials are suggested to the Shrine Hospital for Children. Ord Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
On Nov. 3, 2013, Winifred (Pegg) Ferguson died at the age of 93, at the Never Sweat Ranch, six miles south of Brewster, where she was lovingly cared for the last three years of her life by her daughter Elizabeth and her granddaughters. Peg resided on the Never Sweat Ranch from 1945 until 2001, when she moved to Burwell to the Plaza and later into CMHC Friendship Home Assisted Living.
COMSTOCK - - It is a simple shoe box, filled with what we consider to be ordinary items - toothbrush, socks, hair barretts, balls and small toys, hard candy - but the smiles of joy the box puts on the face of a child is priceless!
The program is called Operation Christmas Child, a project of the international Christian relief organization, Samaritanâ€™s Purse. The project began in 1993 with 28,000 shoe box gifts hand delivered to underprivileged children in other parts of the world. And my how the project has grown!
