Wendell Carl Case, 84, of Ansley, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013. The second of three children, Wendell was born Feb. 13, 1929, to Carl and Edith (Sherbeck) Case. With the exception of his military service, he lived his entire life in Ansley, and was born and raised in the same house, a fact he was proud of. He graduated from Ansley High School in 1947, and on June 14, 1948, he enlisted in the Army. During his Army service, he spent a year in Puerto Rico, where he contracted tropical phagedena, which led to a medical discharge from the Army June 13, 1953.
Verla Marie (Coble) Real, 81 of Broken Bow, passed away in her home Dec. 26, 2013.
Verla, the youngest of three children to Henry and Winneford (Winnie) Coble, was born on the first day of July, 1932, in Broken Bow. As a young girl, Verla attended grades 1 - 12 in the Broken Bow school system. Her passion was her horse, Pepper, and she would ride him as often as possible.
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) â€” Nebraska is continuing its moderate population growth at roughly the same rate as the nation, according to figures released Monday by the U.S. Census Bureau.
The state had an estimated population of 1,868,516 as of July 1, for a net gain of about 13,000 people. The estimated growth was 0.7 percent higher than the estimated population in July 2012.
