February 8th
June Mehal, 90, of Pompano Beach, Fla., passed away Feb. 2, 2013, in Bradenton, Fla., where she had been a resident for the past year at the Summerfield Assisted Living Home.
Leila Johnson, age 96, of rural Anselmo, died Thursday Jan. 31, 2013, at her home near Anselmo.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at St. John's Episcopal Church in Broken Bow with the Rev. Mary Jane Gockley officiating. Burial was in the Merna Cemetery at Merna, with Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow in charge of arrangements.Memorials may be made to the Broken Bow Library.
Leila Johnson was born June 22, 1916 in Gross, Nebr., to Carl Antoine and Ruth (Keller) Micheel. She grew up and attended school in the Thedford and Wood Lake communities.
Merle J Peterson, 85, formerly of Taylor, entered into his Savior's presence Jan. 29, 2013, at the Callaway District Hospital.
Lucile Doris Daily was born Dec. 30, 1916, to Chalmers and Grace (Hammond) Daily in Columbus City, Iowa. She passed away into glory Feb. 1, 2013, at Heritage Hall in Broken Bow.
Her childhood was spent around Milburn, as in 1921 her family moved there to farm near the Middle Loup River. She graduated from Milburn High School in 1933, then attended Kearney State Teacher's College and earned her teaching certificate in 1935. She taught grade school at District 57 in Custer County, and also District 59 in Prairie Center.

There is a certain amount of anxiety that just naturally seems to come with the anticipated arrival of a first child. But about half way through their first pregnancy, Cassie and TR Anderson received news that raised that level of anxiety to a whole new level.

Kimaree (Behrends) Woodward admits she was not like alot of other girls growing up. While other girls were playing house, Kimaree was learning how to shoot guns and bows and arrows.
She says she has always been an “outdoors woman”, and when her dad happened to run across a TV show dedicated to women just like her, he immediately called her and told her about it.

It was reported in the Feb. 7 edition of the Custer County Chief that the Broken Bow boys basketball team lost to Ogallala 59-39. Broken Bow was actually the winner of the game 59-39. The Chief apologizes for the error and any confusion it may have caused,

LITCHFIELD - - There are times when two teams meeting for a competition becomes more than just a game. Friday, Feb. 25, was one of those times.
Ansley-Litchfield and Arcadia were squaring off in a basketball game that night. However, the game itself is likely not what most people in attendance will remember. With these three communities being in such close proximity with each other, most of the students in these schools know each other - or at least of each other.

The Sandhills/Thedford boys basketball team and Mullen girls team, cut down the nets once again, becoming the 2013 LVC champions. Sandhills/Thedford won 54-39 and the Mullen girls won 42-31. Ansley-Litchfield took 3rd place for the girls side and South Loup beat Anselmo-Merna for 3rd place on the boys side
