Branch banks in Mason City, Oconto to close

April 4, 2013

Some decisions are never easy, and when those decisions impact a small rural community, those decisions become excruciatingly difficult.
Nebraska State Bank and Trust Company announced in a press release Tuesday that the bank’s branch offices in Mason City and Oconto would be closed, effective July 1, 2013.
The decision to close these two branches was not entered into lightly, says Nebraska State Bank President Stuart Fox, and just to dispel any rumors, the bank does not have any intent to close any other branches.

New life for Bow sale barn

April 4, 2013

There is a rejuvenated feeling of excitement at the Central Nebraska Commission Company, Broken Bow’s sale barn. Pens are being repaired, the yards are filling up, and trucks last week lined up for blocks waiting to unload cattle.
One community’s loss, is another’s gain.
Those now in charge are Wendell and Kathy Brott, their son Cooper, Sam Teply and Kenny Kramer.
Added to the Broken Bow crew already in place, the sale barn this last week has been busy, busier than it has been for a long, long time.
It’s a team thing, says Wendell.

Broken Bow to be without senior baseball team this upcoming season

April 4, 2013

For the first time in recent memory, Broken Bow will not have a senior baseball team this upcoming summer due to lack of numbers.
DYO President Mike Evans came to this executive decision Monday.
While this is a recent decision, the possibility of having a senior team this season was low.
Although there were great hopes that Christensen, one of the team’s top pitchers last season, won’t be ready by the time the season starts due to his injuries from the accident last summer.
