Bow seniors hold off Kearney Little Ceasers rally

The Broken Bow senior team used a five-run fourth inning to beat Kearney Little Ceasers 8-7 Tuesday night.
“We didn’t walk a lot of batters tonight,” Broken Bow coach Ryan McAlexander said. “The defense played really well and we hit the ball. Those three things are always a winning combination.”
Bow trailed 3-2 heading into the bottom of the 4th before getting RBI hits from Hunter Campbell, Caleb Dodge, Jake McCormick and Garret Ulmer.
Josey Evans also got a run across with a sacrifice fly on the inning.

Kearney Five Points uses big 7th inning to top Bow juniors

The Broken Bow juniors played a back and forth game with Kearney Five Points that ended with a big top of 7th inning from Kearney en route to a 10-5 victory.
The Indians trailed just 5-4 heading into the top of the 7th inning before Kearney was able to find the gaps against Taylor Shea, who took over for starter Jake McCormick.
“We faced McCormick the last time we played them, so I’m surprised we didn’t pick up on him sooner, but eventually our kids made the adjustments,” Kearney Coach Jacob Pacheco said. “That’s what we preach, making adjustments.”

Spirit 16u earns victory over Ravenna

The Broken Bow Spirit 16U team notched another win Monday night, defeating Ravenna 10-2.
Ashley Markham kept Ravenna off the board in the first inning as she recorded two strikeouts. Broken Bow then jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning on RBI singles from Ashley Markham, Jasmyn Brooks and Charmayne Popp.
Ravenna put up one run in the top of the 2nd inning on an RBI single as Markham struck out two more batters.
Brooks continued to swing a hot bat in the bottom of the second, driving in Hanna Lane and Kerri DeGroff on a two RBI- single.

Spirit 18u takes down Ord in dominating fashion

The Broken Bow Spirit 18u team broke the game open in the top of the third inning, pouring in 14 runs on seven hits on the way to a 27-3 victory.
Makenna Brunken got the monstrous inning started with an inside the park home run to deep center field, giving the Spirit a 3-2 lead.
They never looked back.
Brunken is from Burwell and has proved to be a valuable import for the Spirit program so far.

Ansley celebration this weekend

Ansley’s annual Muddy Creek Celebration is one of the highlights of the year in Custer County. This year’s activities are planned for June 21-25, with a dance and poker tournament kicking things off. Activities throughout the weekend include mud drags, fishing tournament, paddle boats, bbq, and much more! There will also be a carnival the 24th and 25th.

Pool remains open and warm, despite leak

With swimming season in full gear kids and adults are flocking to the Broken Bow pool, despite a confirmed leak in the less than 2-year-old structure.
City Administrator David Varley says the city first became aware of the leak when they noticed more water spilling into the final drainage system than normal. Since discovering the leak, the city has been maintaining a close eye on the situation and regularly monitoring the volume of water loss.

Cyclists to visit Custer County tomorrow

Since 1988, more than 200 bicyclists each year have taken four or five days out of their schedules to enjoy a ride together across various parts of Nebraska. This year, Tour de Nebraska will be coming our way, and some Custer County organizations are making sure we are ready.
This year’s tour began Wednesday, June 19, and will conclude Sunday, June 23, with planned stops in Westerville, Broken Bow and Callaway.
