Red Cross offers free training classes

June 21, 2013

The American Red Cross will be hosting a free training for those interested in learning about how they can help the Red Cross respond to disasters. Trained volunteers are needed to help respond in a variety of ways after a disaster has affected a community. The Disaster Services: An Overview course introduces these different activities to interested community members and prospective volunteers.

Jeff and Heather (Sonnichsen) Rapp, of Hickman, would like to announce the arrival of their son, Colin John Rapp, born April 18. Colin weighed in at 9 pounds 8 ounces and was 20 3/4 inches long. Colin is welcomed home by big sister, Keely Jo. Grandparents are Kevin and Jeanne Rapp of Ansley and Rod and Deb Sonnichsen of Broken Bow. Great-grandparents are Johnny and Loris Wright of Broken Bow and Jean Bargman of Bloomfield.

Kaden Lee Miller

Levi and Kiley Miller of Bennet are proud to announce the birth of a son, Kaden Lee Miller, born April 12, 2013, at Bryan Health Medical Center in Lincoln. Kaden weighed 7 pounds 7 ounces and measured 20 1/2 inches in length. Proud grandparents are Tom and Sharon Roberts, and Ron and Deb Miller. Great-grandparents are Maude Roberts, Norman and Doris Hartman, and Marion and Elaine Olson. Kaden is also welcomed home by the family puppy, Lexi.

Leann Brouillette and Ryan McFarland are happy to announce their engagement and upcoming marriage.
Leann is the daughter of Dawn Hiatt and Ron Glasscock of Callaway and the late Gregory Brouillette. She is currently going to the University of Nebraska at Kearney and will graduate in May 2014 with Special Ed and Elementary Ed degrees.
Ryan is the son of Stan and Lawana McFarland of Eddyville. He graduated from UNL in 2010 with a Diversified Ag/Animal Science degree and is currently farming with his dad in Eddyville.

Burnard Whitney, 99

After enjoying 99 years of life in Custer Center, Burnard Merle Whitney, died Friday, June 14, 2013, at Golden Living Center in Broken Bow. He was born May 16, 1914, to Harlen and Ollie (Street) Whitney in a sod home west of Broken Bow.
How does one sum up the life of a man who lived to be nearly 100 years old? Burnard was quite simply a farmer who loved the land where he was born, living within five miles of the original homestead all of his life. He was a part of the land and in some ways the land was a part of him.

Anthony Jay Campbell, 25

Anthony Jay Campbell, 25 of Sioux City, Iowa, died Friday, June 14, 2013, in a drowning accident in the Missouri River. Services will be July 1, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Grand View Park in Sioux City, Iowa. Graveside services will be July 3, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Grand View Cemetery at Anselmo.
Tony was born Sept. 17, 1987, in Grand Island to Duane Drummond and Melissa Campbell. He attended several schools in Nebraska before moving to Sioux City.

Donald (Gene) Graves, 75

Donald (Gene) Graves, 75 of Grand Island, died Friday, June 14, 2013, at St. Francis Medical Center with his loving family at his side.
Celebration of Life service was Tuesday, June 18, at the Bosselman Conference Center at Fonner Park, with Dan Naranjo officiating. His casket was carried in a horse drawn carriage to the Grand Island Cemetery.
Mr. Graves was born Dec. 10, 1937, on a farm near North Star, Neb., the son of Donald and Clara (Schultz) Graves.

Raymond Pandorf, 93

June 21, 2013

Raymond A. Pandorf, age 93 of Callaway, passed away June 11, 2013, at the Callaway Good Life Center. He was born April 17, 1920, in Callaway, to Albert E. and Katherine V. (Ridder) Pandorf.
Raymond was raised in Callaway, and graduated with the Callaway High School class of 1938. In 1944, he entered the US Army and served as an airplane armorer gunner with the 397th Bombardment Group in central Europe during World War II.

Jacqueline Douglass, 85

Jacqueline “Jackie” K. Douglass, born July 4, 1927 at Niobrara, was the youngest of 18 children of Johanna Louise (Grunke) and George Hofer. In 1931, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest and Ida Kilpatrick of Brewster, took 4-year-old little Jackie into their home and hearts whom they reared and loved as their own.

Kay Waddington Baiz, 76

Kay Coleen Waddington was born Aug. 21, 1936, to McKinley and Elsie (Sanders) Waddington. She passed peacefully at her home in South Beach, Ore., May 22, 2013.
Kay graduated from high school in Anselmo, and later from nursing school in Hastings. She continued her nursing career in the Los Angeles, Calif., area.
Kay was married to John Forsyth, then later divorced. She later married Gume Baiz Feb. 24, 1979. They lived in Los Angeles until moving to South Beach, Ore., after they both retired.
