Ken Fritzler, 68

July 29, 2013

Ken Fritzler, 68, of Broken Bow, entered into glory July 9, 2013, at Bryan West Hospital in Lincoln, with family at his side.
Ken was born May 18, 1945, to Kenneth C. and Doris (Eastman) Fritzler in Omaha. The family moved to Kimball, where he graduated from Kimball County High School in 1963. He attended the University of Nebraska Lincoln, where he played tenor sax in the marching band, which gave him the opportunity to travel to the Orange Bowl with the football team.

Stephen and Chrissy Jensen of Ashland proudly announce the birth of their son, Grayson Lee. He was born June 3, 2013, at 5:42 p.m. at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha weighing 8 pounds 8 ounces and measuring 20 3/4 inches in length. Pround grandparents are Cindy and Curt Hanson of Louisville, Randy Upton of Sidney, Iowa, Barb Jensen of Broken Bow and John and Judy Jensen of Gothenburg.

Erica Diane Duryea and Vex Okoth were united in marriage June 26, 2013, after eloping to Hawaii where they were wed on Kona Beach. Officiant was the Rev. James Patrick Thompson.
The bride is the daughter of Sally and Dennis Lehn of Shelton, and Matthew and Betty Duryea of Lexington. Her grandparents are LaVern and Leona Duryea of Mason City.
The groom is the son of Freda Okoth of Nairobi, Kenya, and the late Okoth Rawo.
Erica is employed as a flight attendant with United Airlines. Vex works as a sales supervisor for Maersk, Inc.

Larry Foster, 77

Larry Eugene Foster, 77 years, 3 months and 24 days young, went home to be with our Lord Jesus Christ Sunday, July 14, 2013, at Westview Health Care Center in Sheridan, Wyo.
Larry was born March 20, 1936, to Leonard and Leona (Bryan) Foster in their home near Berwyn, where he lived with his big sister, Lea Dell, and little brother, Lynn. He graduated high school in Ansley, in 1954. He served in the Army from 1955 till 1957 when he was honorably discharged.

Anna May Allison, 83

Anna May Allison, age 83 of Broken Bow, died Monday July 22, 2013, at her home in Broken Bow.
To accommodate family a Memorial service will be held at a later date. A visitation will be held Thursday, July 25, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow, with the family greeting friends from 6 - 7 p.m. at Govier Brothers Mortuary. Howard Kreutzer, 86

Howard A. Kreutzer, 86, of Amherst, died July 21, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Funeral services will be Thursday, July 25, at 2 p.m. at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church with Pastor Duane Duley officiating. Burial will be at the Immanuel Cemetery northwest of Amherst. Military rites at the grave will be provided by the Nebraska National Guard Funeral Honors Team, and the Miller American Legion Post 351. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 - 7 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church Thursday.

Two of the hottest new acts to hit the country music stage will be coming to Broken Bow Tuesday, July 30, to perform live at the Custer County Fair. And area youth are being given a special invitation to get up close and personal with Casey Donahew and Kristen Kelly.
In an exclusive meet-and-greet session, sponsored by Great Plains Communications, students in grades 3-8 will be given access to ask questions, hear personal stories and listen to a few songs by these two artists. The FREE event will begin Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. and will last an hour.

Taylor hangs out the welcome sign for butterflies

TAYLOR - - Did you know that the Village of Taylor is home to one of the only Certified Butterfly Gardens in the area? The Butterfly Garden is located south of the Taylor Visitor Center and surrounds the old jalopy that draws many visitors to stop and explore.
The Butterfly Garden is certified by the North American Butterfly Association and has been certified since 2011. A Butterfly Garden creates an environment for butterflies to thrive in and encourages habitat for pollinators. Three main steps need to be taken in order to create a certified Butterfly Garden.

Board says no to new radio station

Plans are in the works for a new FM radio station to come to Broken Bow. However, neither the Custer County Zoning Board or the Custer County Board of Supervisors have given their approval for the project.
After a split 4-4 vote by the zoning board, the matter came before the county commissioners during their regular meeting Tuesday. Presenting the request is Mark Jensen, owner of MJ Leasing. Jensen owns a handful of small radio stations in Nebraska, and recently purchased the station in Sargent.
