Operation Facelift: at Callaway museum

July 19, 2013

CALLAWAY - - The old saying, “good things come in small packages”, certainly holds true with the Seven Valleys Museum in Callaway. Though not a large community, this little town boasts one of the nicest museums in the area - and thanks to the efforts of a lot of local volunteers, it is getting even nicer.
The Seven Valleys Historical Society began a major restoration project on the museum the first of this year. They are calling it “Facelift Project 2013.”

Ansley rescue honored as tops in state

July 19, 2013

Deep within the boundaries of the state of Nebraska and along three major highways and BNSF Railroad, lies an amazing group of EMTs and firemen. This well trained team has been paged out too many times to horrific scenes, and yet answers these pages with the utmost professionalism and calm presence of minds (even though their hearts are pounding in wonder of what’s ahead of them.)”
These words were written by Cozad Fire and Rescue Chief Marlene Williams in reference to the Ansley Volunteer Rescue Service. Williams nominated the Ansley crew for a special award from the state, and they won.

Broken Bow Junior Baseball finishes runner-up at Districts.

July 18, 2013

COZAD -- After a dramatic 6-5 win over Cozad to make it to the District final, Cozad reminded everyone why they were the number one seed Tuesday night, beating Broken Bow 16-6 and 10-2 to capture the District Title and move on to the state tournament.
In the end, Cozad, the team to beat for the past few years in the junior league, was just too strong.
“They had a fast outfield,” Broken Bow Coach Kyle Stringham said. “They take advantage of where we hit the ball. The first game, they jumped out 7-0 on us. That doesn’t happen, it’s a whole different ballgame.”

Sargent pool benefits from grant

July 16, 2013

The Custer County Foundation presented a grant award in the amount of $3,000 to the Sargent Women's Action Team (SWAT). The grant will go towards the purchase of a new liner for the Sargent swimming pool. The pool has a crack in the deep end and this liner will fix the problem and add years to the life the pool. Another benefit of the liner is it will illuminate the need and the expense of having to pain the pool every year.

Karl Davis, Custer County Foundation Board Member and past President, presented the check to SWAT members and pool staff on Thursday, July 11th.
