Eddyville gets muddy to raise funds

The small southern Custer County community of Eddyville will host its annual fundraiser Mud Drags this weekend, with proceeds from the event being used for the town's Community Center.

The Saturday, Sept. 21 event, will begin at 1 p.m. at the Community Building in Eddyville, and will feature modified stock, super stock, open, hobby and powder puff divisions. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for kids and children under 6 are free. Concessions will be available.

South Platte River Levels to Remain High for Several Days

Though the floodwaters may have crested in Big Springs, Brule and Ogallala in western Nebraska, the National Weather Service predicts high river levels will remain for several days. The debris in the water may contribute to additional flooding.
The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) are urging outdoor recreationists to stay away from standing or moving floodwater in western and central Nebraska.

High School Volleyball: S-E-M sweeps South Loup

Sumner-Eddyville-Miller moved to 5-6 on the season with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-11, 25-19) sweep over South Loup., who falls to 2-5.

Brieanna James led the way offensively with 12 kills while Alicia Pierce finished with nine and Shaylee Burr added seven. Rachel Ibach kept things moving with 25 assists while Burr and Sydney Glatter each had two serving aces.

James led digs with 13 to go with nine from Alicia and Miranda Pierce and seven from Burr.

NEMA Sending Mobile Operations Center and Staff to Ogalalla

Water from Colorado Flooding Expected to Enter Nebraska Late Tuesday

The Nebraska Emergency Management Agency is sending a team of six staff and its Mobile Operations Center (MOC) to Ogallala on Wednesday to work with local emergency managers along the South Platte River in response to potential flooding from water coming from heavy rains that fell on Colorado.

The team will arrange for state resources as needed and coordinate the state’s response.

Spartans capture second straight Seven Valleys Title

Pat Hobyln and company have done it again. Ansley-Litchfield defeated Brady 2-1 Saturday to capture the Seven Valleys Tournament Title for the second straight season. Broken Bow edged by Gothenburg in Home opener

Broken Bow's home opener didn't go as planned Friday night as a Gothenburg's Trenton Long made a 37-yard field goal with 8:13 left in the 4th quarter lifted the Swedes to a 3-0 victory over the Indians.

The victory from Gothenburg brought both team's record to 1-1 on the season.

Broken Bow had a chance with under three minutes left in the game and the ball on their half of the field when quarterback Marcus Miller hit Austin Reynolds on a slant route over the middle. Reynolds took a hard hit and the ball came free.
