Danny M. Collins, 44, was sentenced to 3 - 5 years in the Nebraska State Department of Corrections March 7, for attempted 1st degree sexual assault.
Prior to the sentence being handed down by Judge Karin Noakes in Custer County District Court last week, the prosecution reminded the court that there were multiple victims in this case, and they were quite young at the time of the incidents. County Attorney Steven Bowers stated that the victims are currently âin therapy, and will be for a long time.â

The track season officially opened today for a few of the area schools. Anselmo-Merna's girls team took 3rd place overall at the Indoor with a total of 38 points. South Loup saw their girls team finish 8th with a total of 19 points and Twin Loup's girls were 16th with a total of 10 points.
On the boys side, South Loup was edged by Bertrand for first place. Bertrand finished with 64 while South Loup had 63. Twin Loup finished 9th with 12 points while Anselmo-Merna's boys team placed 13th with 11 points.

The Southwest Conference Music and Art Festival will begin this afternoon. The seven schools that belong to the conference will meet in Broken Bow and students will rehearse together for two days and perform a concert.
The art students will create a mural that will go on display.
The music concert, which will consist of both band and choir, is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 16th at the Broken Bow High School.

The Broken Bow City Council approved a motion on Tuesday to allow the use of TIF funding to begin construction on a new hotel. The Cobblestone Hotel and Suites will provide 36 rooms and be located on west Highway 2, east of Trotters.
The proposed plan will include an indoor pool and hot tub, along with a convention center that will accomodate approximately 500 people.

Members of the Broken Bow High School band percussion department will perform a special number on trash cans as part of the Variety Show tonight, March 11. The event is a fundraiser for the Little Feet, Big Dreams campaign and will begin at 7 p.m. in the Middle School Auditorium. The 28th Annual Family Banquet, hosted by the Arcadia United Methodist Men, has been scheduled for Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 7 p.m. in the Arcadia School Gym. The featured speaker for this yearâs banquet will be Mr. Tanner Fruit.
Tanner is a native of Ogallala, and is currently a senior at the University of Nebraska -Kearney majoring in Exercise Science. During high school, Tanner helped lead his school to the State Class B cross country title as a senior.

The Broken Bow Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) invites everyone to hop along the trail with them Easter weekend.
The group is hosting a fundraiser âBunny Hopâ 5K fun run and 1-mile walk March 30. Registration will begin at 6:30 a.m. at Fox Seasonal Farms, and the run/walk will get started at 7:30 a.m. The entry fee is $25, which includes a T-shirt, and prizes will be awarded in each category.
The group asks that you pre-register for the event by March 11, which can be done on their Facebook page at BrokenBowMopsBunnyHop.

Rapid progress is being made on the new North Park elementary school, and the Little Feet, Big Dreams Campaign is in full swing to raise the funding required for the pieces of the project not covered by the bond.
In the coming weeks, three fundraising projects are planned to give people the opportunity to help. And what a variety of projects they are!

A former Broken Bow music teacher was found shot to death in San Antonio, Texas - apparently the victim of a murder suicide.
Deanna Tiller, 50, was working as an elementary music teacher in San Antonio at the time of her death. According to the Broken Bow Public Schools Superintendentâs Office, Tiller had been hired by this district in August 2007, and served as grades 6-12 choir teacher until May 2008. She had also previously taught and lived in Loup City.

Anselmo--Sterling Atkins, a 2012 graduate of Broken Bow High School, recently passed away while attending college in Chadron. He was remembered yesterday (Wednesday) at the Lonesome River Ranchâs annual production sale.
