Albert Thomas, 91

October 24, 2013

Albert L. Thomas, age 91 of Scribner, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, at the Fremont Area Medical Center.
Albert was born Sept. 6, 1922, in Milburn, to Wilson E. and Clara Edna ‘Hogaboom’ Thomas. He was raised in Milburn and graduated from Dunning High School in 1939. After high school Albert began his long career with the telephone company. Albert married Zita Mae Foote Aug. 16, 1947. The couple moved to Scribner in 1957. Albert was working for Great Plains Communication until he retired in 1987.

Leonard Edwards, 85

Leonard F. Edwards, 85 of Ord, passed away Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, at the Valley County Health System Hospital in Ord.
A Celebration of Life was held Monday, Oct. 7, 2013, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. Fathers Josh Brown and Mark Maresh officiated. Cremation followed and a private inurnment was in the Ord City Cemetery, with Military Honors presented by the Ord VFW Post 7029 and American Legion Post 38. Memorials are suggested to the Ord FFA. Ord Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Glen Gascho, 92

Glen A. Gascho, 92 of Cairo, died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, at Good Samaritan Society in Wood River. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, at the First Baptist Church in Cairo with the Rev. Darrel Holzinger and the Rev. Jack Bolling officiating. Burial will be in the Mennonite Church Cemetery of Wood River. Apfel Funeral Home of Cairo is in charge of arrangements.
Glen A. Gascho was born May 21, 1921, in rural Hall County to Arthur and Barbara (Stutzman) Gascho.

Rosemarie Morrow, 72

Rosemarie Morrow, 72 of Broken Bow, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at the Golden Living Center of Broken Bow. Memorial services were Wednesday, Oct. 9, at Peters Funeral Home in St. Paul, with the Rev. Ray Kosmicki officiating. Inurn-ment was in the Ord City Cemetery.
Mrs. Morrow was born Aug. 21, 1941, at Neun-kirchen (Saar), Germany, the daughter of Johann Wilhelm and Ottilin (Otto) Lenz.

Barry Young, 70

Barry Duane Young, 70 of Winona, Minn., and formerly from Nebraska, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at his home.
Barry, an only child, was born Aug. 12, 1943, in Litchfield, to Robert and Elaine (Sigler) Young. He was raised in Ansley and graduated from high school in 1961. He enlisted in the United States Air Force Jan. 18, 1963, and was stationed in New Mexico, where he was present during underground nuclear testing.

Charles "Smokey" West, 83

Charles K. “Smokey” West, 83 of Kearney, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at his home. Funeral services were Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremat-ion Services in Kearney with the Rev. Dean Pofahl officiating. Burial was at the Pleasanton Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to AseraCare Hospice or to the family to be designated at a later date. A message of condolence, tribute or memory can be left at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremat-ion Services in Kearney are in charge of arrangements.

NPPD to issue up to $140 million in bonds in October

Columbus, Neb. – The Nebraska Public Power District plans to issue approximately $140 million of fixed-rate, tax-exempt bonds on October 29, 2013. The bond sale will include an order period for retail and institutional investors.

Proceeds from the bond sale will be used to refund a portion of the outstanding General Revenue Bonds. The proceeds will also be used to pay financing costs.

It is currently anticipated that the bonds will be issued in $5,000 denominations or any integral multiple thereof.

Bessey Ranger District Open, Water is Off

Halsey – The Bessey Ranger District campgrounds near Halsey have all been reopened for use as of Thursday. Because of the colder temperatures, the water to the showers and campsites at the main campground has been shut off to protect the system from freezing.

Ansley-Litchfield completed the 3-0 sweep of Twin Loup in the LVC Tournament final saturday, winning the tournament for the second straight season.
