Santa visited the Broken Bow Library this past week much to the delight of the children, young and 'not so' young. We published several of the photos in this week's Chief, but the colors were so vibrant we wanted to share the photos in color as well.

Beginning Friday, Dec. 13, 2013 through Jan. 1, 2014, the Broken Bow Police Department will be involved in the statewide â€śYou Drink & Drive, You Loseâ€ť Selective DUI Enforcement.
This is a coordinated effort of law enforcement agencies to decrease the number of impaired drivers in our communities. This selective enforcement is funded through a Nebraska Office of Highway Safety grant.
Several Nebraska Alcohol-Related Statistics:
â€˘ In 2012, there were 30,443 crashes in Nebraska, 1,779 alcohol-related vehicle crashes.
Ronald Eugene Kranz, age 41 of Oconto, died Dec. 7, 2013, near Oconto. Funeral services were Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, at the Community Building in Oconto with Lawrence Francis officiating. Inter-ment was in the Oconto Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Oconto Fire Department or the Oconto Community Building. Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow was in charge of arrangements.
Linda Elaine (Smith) Dowse, 68 of Loup City, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, at Jennie M. Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow, surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at the United Methodist Church in Loup City, with the Rev. Joel Plisek officiating. Burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City.
Dana Calloway Harsh, 94, passed away peacefully Dec. 2, 2013, at Pioneer Memorial Rest Home in Mullen, which had been his home for the past five years. He was born the second of 12 children May 7, 1919, to Lester and Lucy (Fogelsong) Harsh. The family lived in Platte Center, where Dana attended school. He was an outstanding athlete and excelled in basketball and baseball. Fresh out of high school he was chosen to play on the Junior Legion Team in Omaha for the Omaha Alamito Team.
Wanda Alice (Gray) Weatherly, 89 of Broken Bow, passed away Dec. 8, 2013, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home. A celebration of life was Dec. 11 at St. Johnâ€™s Episcopal Church in Broken Bow with Mary Jane Gockley officiating. Burial was at Rose Hill Cemetery in Callaway, with Iverson Memorial Chapel in charge of arrangements.
Wanda was born April 18, 1924, near Arnold, to Harrison and Iva (Chadd) Gray. Wanda was the third child of three. Wanda attended rural schools in the Callaway and Arnold areas.
Carol Ann Trump was born Feb. 27, 1941, near Elyria, to Albert and Anna (Vergin) Kirby. She died Dec. 4, 2013, at the Golden Living Center in Broken Bow.
Virginia May Marsh, age 95, passed away Nov. 27, 2013, in Chandler, Ariz. Virginia was born Dec. 31, 1917, at Arcadia, to Heslie Hall and Rebecca Kay (Hill) Shepperd. She attended rural school in
Valley County and graduated from Comstock High School in 1934.
Virginia married Orval H. Marsh Feb. 2, 1938. Virginia worked as a sales clerk at the Farmers Union and Copp's Store in Comstock. After her sons graduated from high school, she moved to Lincoln and worked at Kresge's and K Mart until she retired in 1983.
Albert Neufeld was born Oct. 7, 1920, at Delft, Minn., to Frank and Anna (Krahn) Neufeld. When he was 2-years-old, the family moved to Lostwood, N.D. to farm. Albert, two brothers and a sister attended a country school. Because of the drought the family moved back to Minnesota and he farmed with his dad.
After he was injured in a corn picker accident, he left the farm and went to Grace Bible Institute in Omaha, graduating in 1949. Albert became a pastor and his first church was a small rural church in Arena, N.D.
