Services planned for Joe Willlhoit

May 3, 2013

Joe Willhoit, age 55 of Sargent, died April 30, 2013 as the result of a car/tractor accident east of Broken Bow.
Funeral services will be Saturday, May 4, 2013, at 10:30 AM at the Sargent High School Gymnasium in Sargent with Pastor Marty Robins officiating. Local woman becomes published poet

At nearly 78-years-young, Anna Schuler of Broken Bow is living proof that it is never too late to pursue your dreams.
For the past 30+ years, Anna has been putting her thoughts on paper in the form of poetry. Just this past month she had one of those poems published.
Anna grew up in Rock County, and learned the meaning of hard work at a young age. She helped out on the family ranch all through her formative years, and still managed to get high enough grades to earn the honor of salutatorian of the Class of 1954 from Rock County High School in Bassett.

Sarah Kay Haumont

Joanna and Ted Haumont, of rural Sargent, proudly announce the birth of a daughter, Sarah Kay Haumont. Sarah was born March 22, 2013. She weighed 7 pounds 5 ounces. Proud grandparents are Joyce and Phil Haumont of Anselmo, and Carol and Darrell Goodner of Gates. Great-grandmother is Ruth Parker of Broken Bow.

Jordan Gibbens & Evan Janssen

Jeff and Michelle Gibbens of Sargent, are proud to announce the engagement of their daughter, Jordan Kate Gibbens, to Evan James Janssen, son of Larry and Jane Janssen of Randolph.
Jordan is a 2007 graduate of Sargent High School. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Life Sciences-Biology, minor in Psychology from Wayne State College in May 2011. She is currently pursuing a master of Physician Assistant Studies at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

Addie Lou Turner & Jimmy R. Turner

Memorial Services for Addie Lou “Smets” Turner, and her son, Jimmy R. Turner, will be Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Round Valley Cemetery in Custer County at 2 p.m.
Addie was born Nov. 11, 1918, in Berwyn, and died March 6, 2013 in Lincoln.
Jimmy was born Feb. 2, 1940, in Scottsbluff, and died July 3, 2012, in Porterville, Calif.
Survivors include a son/brother, John Turner and his wife Sheila of Ogallala; daughter/sister, Judy and husband Dave McReynolds of Ashland; daughter/sister, Joy Kokes of Lincoln; three granddaughters/nieces; and five great-grandchildren/ nieces/nephew.

Naomi Hothem, 81

Funeral Celebration of Life service for Naomi Marie (Williams) Hothem, 81, of Sumner, will be Saturday, May 4, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the United Church of Sumner – East Campus with Pastor Ken Hutson officiating. Pastor Stan Murdoch will share his memories.
Visitation will be Friday, May 3, 2013, from 5-7 p.m. at the United Church of Sumner-East Campus. Burial will be in the Sumner Cemetery at Sumner.

Norma Hagadorn, 87

Norma Lee Hagadorn, former long time Broken Bow resident, died in Lincoln, April 28, 2013, after a lengthy illness.
Norma Lee was born July 8, 1925, in Taylor, to Ernest and Della (Parker) Fox. She attended Taylor Public Schools and was active in the arts.

Charles A. Rienks, 78

Charles “Chuck” Alton Rienks, 78, left his earthly home to be with the Lord Monday, April 29, 2013, after a valiant short fight with cancer.
Chuck was born to Richard and Blanche (Holderbaum) Rienks Jan. 27, 1935, in South Bend, Ind.
He was the fourth of seven children in addition to three of Chuck’s aunts and uncles his parents raised as siblings. Chuck would tell stories of having to cut a half gallon of ice cream 10 ways to share on his birthday.

Marvin Hickenbottom, 95

Marvin W. “Barney” Hickenbottom, 95, of Callaway, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at Callaway Good Life Center.
He was born August 12, 1917, in Callaway, to Rolla Clifford and Frances Addie (Schreyer) Hickenbottom. He was a 1934 graduate of Gandy High School in Logan County. Following school Barney farmed and moved from Arnold back to Callaway in 1955.
He was married to LaVonne Whipple Oct. 7, 1956, in Callaway at the Methodist Parsonage. Two boys were born two this union: Duane and Allan.

John W. Collier, 85

John (Jack) William Collier, 85, of Arnold, departed this life April 25, 2013 in Callaway, after a hard fought battle with cancer.
Jack was born July 9, 1927, in Kearney, to John N. and Helen L. (Bartz) Collier. Jack grew up in Stapleton, and graduated from Baker High School in 1945.
Jack started his life-long love and career in ranching as a young man at the Baskin Ranch north of Stapleton. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1946, and served his country during World War II in the Philippines. He was honorably discharged in 1947.
