Dwain Verne Myers, one of three children of Loren Verne and Marjory Ruth (Clay) Myers, was born Feb. 27, 1939, in Sidney. He attended school in Potter, the West Coast, and Broken Bow, before graduating from Broken Bow High School in 1956.
After high school Dwain attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln for a semester. He then transferred to Kearney State, where he earned his bachelors degree in education. While in school in Kearney Dwain joined the Nebraska National Guard. Later in life Dwain would obtain his masters in education and specialist in education at Kearney.
Andrew Peter Crawford Sr. of Minden, formerly of Axtell and Ansley, passed away March 6, 2013, at the Kearney County Health Systems in Minden. Funeral services were Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Mason City, with the Rev. John Lewis officiating.
Burial was in the Mason City Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorials may be given to the charity of your choice. Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow was in charge of arrangements.
Jay. T. Evans, 87, formerly of Berwyn, died Feb. 28, 2013, at the Masonic Home in Plattsmouth. Memorial services were Thursday, March 7, 2013, at the Masonic Home in Plattsmouth. Roby Funeral Home of Plattsmouth was in charge of arrangements.
Jay Theodore Evans was born May 18, 1925, at Berwyn, to Otto Evans and Ruby (Knapp) Evans. He had one sister, Cleo (Evans) Allen, who preceded him in death.
He attended grade school and high school at Berwyn, and graduated from Berwyn High School. Jay spent most of his life farming and ranching on his property south of Berwyn.
Elvira K. Bolli, 98, of Arcadia, died Sunday, March 17, 2013, at the Valley View Living Center in Ord.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, March 21, at the United Methodist Church in Arcadia with the Rev. Dr. Jeff D. Hale officiating. Burial will be in the Lee Park Cemetery near Arcadia. Visitation will be one hour before time of service at the church. Peters Funeral Home of Loup City is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Bolli was born July 14, 1914, at Taylor, the daughter of Charles and Minnie (Beals) Johnson.
MASON CITY - - The Mason City Volunteer Fire Department and Broken Bow Food Pantry will now be able to better serve the community thanks to the support of local farmer, Joan Zimmer, and Americaâ€™s Farmers Grow Communities.
The Hastings track meet that Broken Bow was scheduled to compete in at noon today has been cancelled. The North Platte. St. Patrick's Invite (South Loup) has been cancelled. The Stars Relays (Ansley-Litchfield) has been cancelled. Arcadia track had a schedule change from what was in your sports tab. Their first meet is now the South Loup invite April 5 in Arnold. The Wilcox Invite (Twin Loup) has been cancelled. The Hershey Invite (Mullen, Anselmo-Merna, Sandhills/Thedford) has also been cancelled. That means all track events for this weekend have been cancelled.
The quest to get healthy affects many Americans, and with a new year generally comes renewed ambitions to lose weight. Becky Pearson and her staff at Pearson Physical Therapy in Broken Bow saw this as the perfect opportunity to lend a little incentive to area residentâ€™s weight loss goals.
Pearson says she and her staff began discussing hosting some type of weight loss challenge last fall. They decided January would be the ideal time to get the challenge underway.
There is a new face at the Custer County Fairgrounds, albeit a familiar one. Toby Kinderknecht officially began his duties as Custer County Fairgrounds Manager Monday, March 18.
While he has never actually lived in this area, Broken Bow is hardly new to Toby. Back in the 1980s he was a regular at the horse track here, working first as an assistant horse trainer and then head trainer.
Toby will be taking over for previous Fairgrounds Manager Leon Meyer, who announced his retirement in January.
Charlotte J. Griebel, 81, of Sargent, died Friday March 8, 2013 at the Jennie M. Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday March 13 at the United Methodist Church in Sargent with the Rev. Marvin Bauer officiating. Burial will be in the Douglas Grove Cemetery west of Comstock. Visitations will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Rhoad Funeral Home in Sargent is in charge of arrangements
Katherine Jane â€śKathyâ€ť Gilligan Manning, 78, passed peacefully from her earthly home and into the Heavenly realm into the loving arms of Jesus March 6, 2013, at Linden Court in North Platte.
She was born the third child and only daughter to Nick and Hilda (Sauerberg) Gilligan Aug. 29, 1934, on the family farm outside of Milburn that her grandfather homesteaded.
Kathy attended grade school at Milburn by traveling horseback or walking the mile and a half with her older brothers with whom played many practical pranks!
