Richard 'Dick' Bossen, 75

January 24, 2014

Richard D. “Dick” Bossen, 75, of Arcadia passed away Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, at the Valley View Living Center in Ord.
A Celebration of Life was held Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, at the Arcadia United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Jeff D. Hale officiating. Burial was in the Arcadia Cemetery. Military Honors were provided by the Arcadia American Legion Post 251 and the Nebraska National Military Honor Guard.
Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice. Ord Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Darline Daily, 86

January 24, 2014

Darline Daily, age 86 of Broken Bow formerly of Milburn, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2104, at her home in Broken Bow.
Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow with the Rev. Seth Bates officiating. Burial ws in the New Helena Cemetery near Anselmo. Memorials have been established to the family to be designated at a later date.
Darline Delores Daily was born July 15, 1927, near Anselmo to Charlie and Agnes (Stithem) Pettis. She graduated from Anselmo High School.

Paul Carothers, 83

January 24, 2014

Paul Carothers, the last of seven children of Dr. Paul Carothers and
Maybelle Chase Carothers of Broken Bow, died Jan. 17 in Beatrice. He was 83.
An avid hunter and angler all of his life, Paul also was a high school teacher and football coach, by profession and a farmer by avocation. He farmed in Custer County early in his life and upon retirement in the 1990s, he and his wife, Donna, lived on their farm north of Broken Bow. He delighted in returning to his home town in retirement and enjoyed renewing old friendships there.

Lawrence Cacak, 89

January 24, 2014

Lawrence Charles Cacak, 89 passed away Jan. 19, 2014 at Heritage Care Center in Fairbury. He was born to Frank and Elizabeth Pavlicek Cacak Nov. 23, 1924 at Thompson, Nebr.
He is survived by his wife, Verda of Fairbury; son, Harold of Orange County, Calif.; one daughter, Carol Allen and husband Jay, of Broken Bow; one grandson, Ben Allen of Omaha; one granddaughter, Jessica Bartak and husband Scott of Merna, and two great-grandchildren, Aaron and Megan Bartak of Merna.

District and Housing Announce formal Alliance to Benefit Central Nebraska Region

The Central Nebraska Economic Development District is proud to announce that Judy Petersen will serve as the new Executive Director of the Development District, effective January 17, 2014, and that a new alliance has been formed between the Central Nebraska Economic Development District (CNEDD) and the Central Nebraska Housing Developers (CNHD). Many thanks to the Federal Economic Development Administration (EDA) for the guidance and support they are providing to make this formal alliance a reality for the Central Nebraska region.

Roundup of recently introduced Legislation

LINCOLN--Dozens more legislative bills and resolutions piled up on Nebraska lawmakers' plates this week. Here are some highlights: LB861 by Sen. Russ Karpisek of Wilber aims to prevent the sales of e-cigarettes to minors. Nebraska has no law preventing the sale of e-cigarettes to those younger than 18, but many stores refuse to sell them to minors anyway. If passed, the punishment for selling e-cigarettes to minors would be the same as for selling cigarettes, cigars or chewing tobacco.

Council appoints interim administrator

January 21, 2014

In a special meeting of the Broken Bow City Council Tuesday morning, Dr. Virginia Moon was appointed interim City Administrator. Dr. Moon is no stranger to the community, having previously served as interim superintendent of Broken Bow Public Schools for two years.
