Independent Jenkins qualifies for US Senate ballot

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A central Nebraska cattle rancher has qualified for the November ballot in Nebraska's U.S. Senate race.

The secretary of state's office confirms that Jim Jenkins, an independent, has submitted enough valid signatures to appear on the ballot with Republican Ben Sasse and Democrat Dave Domina.

The candidates are running to replace U.S. Sen. Mike Johanns, who isn't seeking re-election.

Bomb threat at Broken Bow store a hoax

It was a scam and it was all about money.

A bomb threat was called into Dollar General in Broken Bow earlier today, July 11, closing the store and closing the streets leading into their parking lot.

This is not the first time the chain has been targeted. This was the fifth Nebraska store targeted today. Like threats were received in Ainsworth, O'Neill and two in Omaha in addition to the Broken Bow store.

Custer Co. Sheriff's Office, Broken Bow Police Dept., Broken Bow Fire Dept. and EMT's responded to a possible bomb threat at Dollar General in Broken Bow. Surrounding streets are blocked off and the store is currently closed. The building has been cleared and employees have been allowed back in the building. More information will be added as it becomes available.
