Robert Charles Miles, 88

July 25, 2014

Robert Charles Miles died June 2, 2014, at Pioneer Memorial Rest Home
in Mullen. He was 88. He was born March 3, 1926, in Arnold, to Austin and Mae Lester Miles..

Robert lived two miles northeast of Brownlee, until 1938 when the
family purchased the Higgins ranch southeast of Brownlee.

Robert went to grade school in Brownlee and graduated from Thedford
High School in 1943.

In the fall of 1944 he was drafted into the Army.
He took his basic training at Fort Hood, Texas, and spent a month at Fort Ord in California, before being shipped overseas in February 1945.

Berniece A. McCullough, 87

Berniece Agnes (Plambeck) McCullough, one of five children of Henry and Verna (Albers) Plambeck, was born May 6, 1927, at Litchfield. She attended country school near her home and graduated from Ansley High School.

October 13, 1947, Berniece was united in marriage to Leon McCullough. They would be blessed with three children: Doris, Dale and Dianne. The couple, with their family, lived in towns in Nebraska and Missouri throughout their lives.

Dorothy Wilson, 94

Dorothy (Redfern) Wilson, 94, of Topeka, Kan., passed away Jan. 1, 2014, at McCrite Plaza Retirement Community.

She was born Sept. 1, 1919, to Clarence M. and Ruth (Jarvis) Thompson in a sod house on her grandparent’s homestead south of Brewster.

Eight of her growing-up years were spent on what is now known as Pressey Park, south of Broken Bow.

She attended grades 7-9 in Broken Bow, and 10-12 in Oconto. After graduating from Oconto High School in 1936, she attended Kearney State Teachers College.

Larry Caudle, 67

Larry D. Caudle, age 67, of Merna died Sunday June 15th at his home in Merna.

Funeral arrangements are pending.

Merlin Seidel, 25

July 25, 2014

Merlin Seidel, 25, of Sargent, died Sunday, June 15, 2014, at Jennie Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at the Ravenna High School football field. In case of inclement weather the service will be held at the Ravenna City Auditorium. Burial will be in the Summerford Cemetery in Sargent.

Rasmussen Funeral Home in Ravenna is in charge of arrangements.

A Graveside Memorial Service for Charles H. ‘Chuck’ Gates, son of Dillard and Ann (Mohatt) Gates were June 22, 2014, at the Gates Cemetery following the Gates Family Reunion at the Gates Community Center.

Don Schauda officiated.

James 'Jim' Garner, 73

July 25, 2014

James ‘Jim’ Garner of Cameron Park, Calif., a 1957 graduate of Mason City High School died Sunday, June 1, 2014.

Jim was stationed in Korean, serving in 1959/1961.

Jim was employed for approximately 25 years by Square D of Lincoln and Columbia, Mo., as a computer technician.

He was preceded in death by parents, Ralph and Bernadine Garner; and a brother, Jerry of Brownlee.

Helen Havel, 84

Helen Havel, 92, of Milligan passed away Thursday, June 5, 2014, at her home.

Helen was born Oct, 16, 1921, to Jaroslav and Anezka Hendrych near Milligan, the last of four children.

Helen graduated from Milligan High School in 1938.

She married Donald R. Havel in 1945, who preceded her in death, April 27, 2000.

She lived her entire life in the Milligan and Exeter area.

Jerrold Alan Gardner, 74

Jerrold Alan Gardner, 74, of Mitchell, died Monday, June 09, 2014, at the Mitchell Care Center surrounded by family and friends.

Jerrold was born on Dec. 8, 1939, in Lexington, he son of Ira and Ruth (Anderson) Gardner of Broken Bow.

He was a loyal and devoted husband of 50 years to Virginia (Reinhard) Gardner from Callaway, and a loving father to Marjorie.

He attended the University of Nebraska Lincoln and spent 40 years as an engineer with the Nebraska Department of Roads.He received many awards for his meritorious service.
