Tune in this evening to "Gregg Ritz Hunt Masters" on the Outdoor Channel, and join 40 million households across the world on a turkey hunt at the Mike Pitzel Ranch up by Taylor. Broken Bow's own Robbie Johnson from Arrow Seed served as guide.

Filmed the end of April, word has it that the show visited Arrow Seed and Schmick's Market shopping for provisions, and features a segment working cattle for the landowner as well as hunting turkeys.

Huskers' Gregory wants to expand game beyond sacks

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska defensive end Randy Gregory wants to be known for being more than just a pass rusher.

After leading the Big Ten with 10 1/2 sacks last season, he says he needs to become better as a run-stopper.

Gregory's difficulty holding his ground against the run stemmed from his struggle to maintain weight. He dropped as low as 230 pounds last season. Last week, the 6-foot-6 Gregory was up to 248.

Manager vs. Administrator: Bow to host informational sessions

The city of Broken Bow has two informational sessions concerning the pros and cons between City Administrator and and City Manager forms of government planned for this Thursday, Aug. 7, at 5:15 and 6:30 p.m. Both sessions will take place in the Broken Bow Municipal Building.

The discussion sessions will be lead by Bill Podraza with Miller and Associates Consulting Engineers, P.C. of Kearney.

Please plan to attend, by law, the decision is be up to the voters and your opinion counts.

Nebraska senators to seek more prison oversight

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska lawmakers are looking at ways to increase oversight of the state's troubled prison system, possibly by creating an independent watchdog position or by having the department answer to the Legislature.

Some senators are already drafting legislation after learning that prison officials knowingly miscalculated sentences for hundreds of inmates.

Senator Deb Fischer's reaction to southern border visit

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) today joined a bipartisan group of six other senators in visiting the southern border, which included briefings at the McAllen Border Patrol Station, the Hidalgo Bridge connecting the United States and Mexico, and facilities at Lackland Air Force Base currently housing children from Central American who have illegally crossed the southern border. Upon returning to Washington, Fischer released the following statement:

Faye Anderson, 76

August 1, 2014

Faye Anderson, age 76 of Grand Island, formerly of Broken Bow, died Thursday July 24, 2014, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

Graveside services were Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at the Broken Bow Cemetery in Broken Bow with Pastor Scott Friesen officiating. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.

Govier Brothers. Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials have been established to the Chrysalis Lutheran Homes in Grand Island.

James 'Jim' Harvey Bonnell, 71

James ‘Jim’ Harvey Bonnell, 71, of Galeton, Colo., went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Friday, July 25, 2014 in Greeley, Colo.

James was born July 30, 1942, in Baltimore, Md., to Maurice and Verle (Myers) Bonnell. He lived in Baltimore until moving to Lillian, Neb. in 1946 and later Broken Bow, in 1950. He graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1960 and then moved to Galeton, Colo. in 1961.

Kenneth Raymond Neville, 60

Ken Neville, 60, was killed in a motorcycle accident Sunday, July 27, 2014 outside of Broken Bow.

Funeral services will be Thursday, July 31, at 2 p.m. at the Municipal Building in Broken Bow. Family requesting casual/jeans/ motorcycle apparel.

Govier Brother’s Mortuary in Broken Bow is in charge of arrangements

Ken was born April, 2 1954 in York, to Ray and Barbara (Kaliff) Neville. In 1972, he graduated from Centura High School in Cairo.

Cynthia Fisher, 57

August 1, 2014

Cynthia Fisher, 57, of Moorefield, died July 26, 2014, at Good
Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Cindy was born Sept. 5, 1956 in Broken Bow, daughter of Clyde and
Gloria (Pedersen) Bartak. She grew up in the Anselmo/Merna area and
graduated from Anselmo/Merna High in 1974.

Cindy lived in Hastings while attending Mary Lanning Nursing School, graduating in 1978. Following graduation she moved to Gothenburg for a year.

Cindy married Robert Fisher at Broken Bow, April 21, 1979, and they made their home at Moorefield.

Loren Phillip Anderson, 85

August 1, 2014

Loren Phillip Anderson, 85, of Arnold, died Saturday, July 26, at Golden LivingCenter in Broken Bow.

Services were Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at the United Methodist Church in Arnold with Pastor Andrew Black officiating. Burial with military honors was at the Arnold Cemetery.

Loren was born in a farm home in Tiffan, Custer County, to Jesse and Marvel Anderson.

April 14, 1948, he married Maryann Anderson in Seneca, Kansas; Maryann died in 1995.
