Broken Bow FFA Chapter Banquet 2015

The Broken Bow FFA Chapter Banquet was Thursday evening at the One Box Convention Center. The night was a chance for the FFA to give out achievement awards, scholarships, thank the community and to announce the officers for 2015-2016.

Among those in attendance where members of the Broken Bow FFA Chapter from Wood River and Minden. They are part of Broken Bow's FFA due to the fact that their schools do not have a FFA program or adviser this year.

Broken Bow JR Fire Patrol

15 kids attended Jr Fire Patrol yesterday at the Broken Bow Fire Hall. Among the many things they learned during this years program tonight they were shown what to do and what not to do in case of a grease fire. Here Fireman Paul Holland shows them why not to try and carry the pan, because you could get hurt very bad.

Gayleene Daugherty, 82

Gayleene Lyale Luther Daugherty passed away at home April 21 2015.

She is survived by two daughters, Jennifer (Paul) Cramer, Aurora, Colo., and Michelle Daugherty, Rio Rancho, N.M.; a grandson, Marc Cramer; a great-granddaughter, Kaylen Cramer, Aurora, Colo.; two brothers Jerald (Donna) Luther of Kimball, and Gary (Darlene) Luther of Carlsbad, N.M.; and many nieces and nephews.

Gayleene was born in Mason City, Jan. 17, 1933, to Pat and Marie Commeree Luther.

She taught school in a one room school house after high school graduation.

J. Stanley Martin, 87

J. Stanley Martin, age 87 of rural Broken Bow died Monday, April 20, 2015, at the Quality Senior Village in Broken Bow.

Funeral services will be Friday, April 24, 2015, at 1:00 P.M. at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow with Pastor John Carney and Pastor Doug Saner officiating.

Burial will be in the Custer Center Cemetery near Broken Bow. Visitation will be held Thursday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.

Memorials have been established to Gideon’s Bibles or the Church of God in Broken Bow.

Robert L. ‘Bob’ Thomas, 90

Robert L. “Bob” Thomas, 90, of Callaway, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2015, at Callaway Good Life Center.

Bob was born March 13, 1925, in Dorchester, to Lawrence and Grace (Hickenbotham) Thomas.  He was raised by his dad and stepmother, Jennie and grew up in the Crete and Dorchester areas. 

He moved to Callaway as a junior in high school, graduating from Callaway High School in 1943. 

Jacqueline Scott, 85

Jacqueline Imogene Geiser Scott, age 85 years and 4 months, passed away peacefully in her sleep Sunday, April 19, 2015, from heart, kidney and lung problems at St. Luke’s Hospital in Meridian, Idaho.

Jackie was the eldest daughter of Archie Delbert Geiser and Irma Lea Phifer. She was born Dec. 13, 1929, in Arnold. She graduated from Arnold High School in 1949.

After high school she moved to Denver, Colo., to work before returning to Arnold to work as a nurse at the Arnold Hospital.

Nancy Duryea, 83

Nancy Duryea 83 of Merna, died Thursday, April 23, 2015, at the Golden LivingCenter in Broken Bow.

Funeral services for Naomi “Nancy” Duryea were Monday April 27, 2015, at the United Methodist Church in Merna, with the Rev. Andrew Black. 

Burial was in the Merna Cemetery with Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow in charge of the arrangements. 

Naomi Doling Duryea was born March 25, 1932, to Sam and Golda Spencer Doling (Busby) in Oklahoma City, Okla. She was one of seven children. Because of health issues the family moved Nancy to a farm between Gentry and Decatur, Ark. 

Shirley Ann DeBusk, 87

Shirley Ann (Woods) DeBusk, 87, of Sargent, died Thursday, April 23, 2015, at Heritage Hall in Broken Bow.

Services were Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at Rhoad Funeral Home in Sargent. Pastor Marvin Bauer officiated.

Burial was at Mount Hope Cemetery north of Sargent.

Shirley was born March 7, 1928, in Waco, and was the youngest of six children.

Most of her childhood was spent in Custer County where she graduated from Sargent High School in 1945. She received her teaching certificate from Kearney State Teachers College and taught in the Sargent area.
