Harold Duane Cantrell died of a stroke at Wyoming Medical Center Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011. A memorial service was held Friday, Aug. 19, at Word Christian Fellowship, with Associate Pastor Angela Haigler officiating.
Duane was born May 26, 1947, in Broken Bow, the son of Harold F. Cantrell and Freda M. (Embree) Cantrell. Duane graduated from high school in Merna, and attended classes at Casper College in Wyoming.
Duane married Phyllis J. Konings, and their union produced four daughters. They were divorced after 22 years of marriage.
Charles E. Craig, 62 of Lincoln formerly of Broken Bow, passed to the house of the Lord Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, at Bryan LGH in Lincoln.
Services were Aug. 24, at Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton with the Rev. Valjean Warman officiating. Burial was at the Belgrade Main Cemetery with military rites near Belgrade.
Gary W. Story, age 65, of Kearney died Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011 at his residence. Funeral services were Monday, Aug. 22, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in Kearney with the Rev. Loren Eugene Betz, age 78, formerly of Estes Park, Colo., passed away Aug. 19, 2011, at home in Broken Bow.
Loren was born Dec. 24, 1932, in Broken Bow to Alfred and Ethel Buckner Betz. He attended Broken Bow schools, graduating in 1951. Loren, who was recruited to play football, received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, in 1955. He was a First Lieutenant in the U. S. Army from 1956-1958.
August 1, 1960, he married Thelma L. Coffman in Englewood, Colo. To this union three children were born: Lisa, Paula and David.
Patricia Ann Tierney of Falls Church, Virg., passed away May 29, 2011. She was born Nov. 11, 1919, in Omaha, to John and Orah Tierney of Broken Bow, where she was raised until 1934, when the family moved to Scottsbluff.
Luda Myers passed away at Mercy Medical center in Redding, Calif., Aug. 13, 2011, after a brief illness.
Luda is the daughter of pioneer farming family Bill and LaVerna (Wilcher) Bailey of Arnold, who have preceded her in death.
Cleone Maxine Dickey, age 80, of Broken Bow, died Monday, Aug. 15, 2011, at the Golden Living Center in Broken Bow.
Memorial funeral services were Aug. 19, at Saint Anselm's Catholic Church in Anselmo with Father Jim Hunt officiating. Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow wass in charge of arrangements.
Gerald "Jerry" L. Parr, 87, died Aug. 20, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Center in Beatrice after a short illness.
Jerry was born October 9, 1923, in Merna, the son of Merle and Della (Cox) Parr. He graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1941.
Survivors are a son, Gerald Dennis and wife, Marlys of Lubbock, Texas; a daughter, Linda Young and her husband, Jerry of New Port Richey, Fla.; a son, Brad and his wife, Kelly of Hot Sulphur Springs, Colo.; his sister, Gloria McCarthy, and her husband, Verne of Brookings, S.D.; and three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Julie Lindstrom says she has known since she was in grade school that she wanted to be a doctor. Now more than 20 years since she graduated from high school, she has come full circle and will soon be practicing medicine in the same clinic where she grew up watching her dad practice.
Voters in the Broken Bow school district will head to the polls Tuesday, Sept. 13, for a special election to decide the future of the city's elementary schools.
This is a new project and a new requested bond amount. After conducting a telephone survey in late April among the district patrons, the school board has reviewed the results of that survey and have come up with what they believe is the most practical solution for meeting the educational needs of Broken Bowâ€™s elementary students.
