Stanley John Nordlund, age 85,of Loup City, died Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at the Rose Lane Nursing Home in Loup City, Nebraska.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. in the Baptist Church in Loup City, with the Rev. Del Unruh officiating. Burial will be in the Tallin Cemetery west of Callaway, Ne. at approximately 2 p.m. Visitation will be Friday, Aug. 17, at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow 8 a.m to 8 p.m. with family present 5 to 8 p.m Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Loup City or the Homeward Trail of Mason City, Ne.
Althea Lawrence, age 90 of Broken Bow, formerly of Ansley, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012, at the Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Funeral services were Monday, Aug. 13, 2012, at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow with the Rev. Mary Jane Gockley officiating. Burial was in the Fort McPherson Cemetery.

Robert Eugene C. Abel was born the youngest of four children to Charles and Martha (Knadjl) Abel Feb. 16, 1940, on the family farm in Mason City. He passed from this life Friday, Aug. 10, 2012, at his home in Talmo, Kan. He was 72 years of age.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters Arlene Harnagel and Charlene Lymber.
As Broken Bow Public Schools gets ready to begin a new school year, they welcome 10 new teachers and a new superintendent.

By the time you read this, all 50 towers in the first phase of the Broken Bow wind farm project will be erected. A contingency of state representatives visited the wind farm Tuesday afternoon and got a first hand, up close and personal look at the giant turbines.
Mondayâ€™s City Council meeting began with an unexpected order of business. Pending the resignation of council president Scott Spanel, Mayor Cecil Burt appointed councilman Chad Schall as temporary president.
The council then voted to accept Spanelâ€™s resignation, though Schall commented that he would like to have more explanation as to the reason of the resignation.
Just last week, Custer County celebrated the centennial of its courthouse. While county officials all share a sense of pride and heritage in the history of the courthouse, they also realize the old building in its current state no longer effectively meets the needs of its users.
Tuesday morning, the Custer County Board of Supervisors were presented with a couple of possible solutions to those issues.
From Aug. 17 through Labor Day, the Broken Bow Police Department will participate in a statewide â€śYou Drink, You Drive, You Loseâ€ť Selective DUI Enforcement campaign.
According to Police Chief Steve Scott, this is a coordinated effort of law enforcement agencies across the state to decrease the number of drunk and impaired drivers in our communities. The program is funded through a grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety.

Ronald C. Dittmar, age 83 of Oconto, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2012 at the Callaway Good Samaritan Center. Funeral services were Friday, Aug. 10, at the First Lutheran Church at Buffalo, south of Oconto, with the Rev. Victor Rasmussen officiating. Burial was in the Christ Lutheran Cemetery. Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow was in charge of the arrangements. Memorials have been suggested to the First Lutheran Church Building Fund.
Woodrow H. "Woody" Sells, 95, former resident, passed away Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, at his home in Carlsbad, N.M.
Funeral services were Friday, Aug. 10, 2012, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel in Carlsbad, with the Rev. David W. Rogers officiating. Masonic Service was performed by Eddy Lodge 21 AF&AM. A Lodge of Sorrow convened Friday, August 10, in Carlsbad. Interment followed in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad. Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard provided military honors.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
