The giving season has arrived. So as you dust off your ornaments, unpack the snowmen and scurry through your day, take a moment to remember the little ones.
Thanksgiving official kicks off the fund-drive for the Childrenâ€™s Christmas Fund. Last year, working in partnership, the Broken Bow Does, the Custer County Chief, the Childrenâ€™s Christmas Fund Board of Directors, and you, through the generosity of your giving, the Childrenâ€™s Christmas Fund helped make the holiday season a little brighter for 519 children and their families.
Should it stay or should it go? That is the question surrounding the playground equipment at Custer School, addressed again by the Broken Bow School Board Monday evening.
Nicholas Saner, 31 of Broken Bow, was arraigned in Custer County District Court Nov. 8 on five felony charges, stemming from a Sept. 8, 2012 incident involving a Broken Bow woman.
According to the complaint, Broken Bow police were called to a residence on South 13th Avenue in Broken Bow Sept. 8, 2012, at about 2:35 a.m. after receiving a call that someone was threatening to burn down the house. Officers picked up Saner immediately upon arriving at the scene.
Saner has been charged with the following:
Count 1 - criminal attempt, sexual assault, Class III felony
In July 2006, the 1074th Transportation Company of the Army National Guard deployed to Iraq. Gene Hendricks of Broken Bow was a member of that unit - it was his first overseas deployment. It was also the first deployment for a young soldier from McCook, named Randy Matheny.
Unfortunately, Matheny did not make it home with the rest of his unit.
HALSEY - - The Bessey Ranger District has Christmas tree permits available for sale again this year, beginning November 19th at their office from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Bessey office is located at 40637 River Loop, near Halsey.
The U.S. Census Bureau reports that the percentage of households headed by older adults has grown significantly over the last half century. The share of householders age 75 and older grew from 6 percent in 1960 to 10 percent in 2012.
Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) is once again helping to collect cards for the Red Cross Holiday Mail for Heroes program which gives Americans the opportunity to send holiday greetings and thanks to servicemembers, veterans and their families around the world.
Joanne Kaslon and Trenton Carda, both of Hibbing, Minn., will be united in marriage Nov. 24, 2012, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Ashton.
Parents of the bride-to-be are Jerome and Marcene Kaslon of Ashton. Ronald and Peggy Carda of Weissert are the parents of the future groom. He is the grandson of Leo and DeVohn Peterson of Weissert.
Vivian Ann Dickey, age 79 of Broken Bow, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, at Heritage Hall in Broken Bow.
Memorial funeral services were Wednesday, Nov 14, 2012, at St. Anselms Catholic Church in Anselmo, with Father Jim Hunt officiating. Burial was in Saint Anselms Catholic Cemetery, with Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include sisters, Delores (Tom) Fetherston of Anselmo,. Wanda (Greg) Nielsen of Valentine, and Norma Dickey of Lincoln; a brother, Gene (Ardyce) Dickey of Cozad, and numerous nephews and neices.
Frances M. Hansen, age 81, of Ansley, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, at the Golden Living Center in Broken Bow. Funeral services were Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, in Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow with Rev. Kathy Salts officiating. Burial was in the Mason City Cemetery, with Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow in charge of arrangements.
