The AAU Middle School National Wrestling Duals were held at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa April 9-10. Scott Davis competed for the Nebraska team (team Huskerland) in the 250 lb. weight class. Davisâ€™s individual dual record of 5 wins and 3 losses qualified him for All-American honors. The tournament consisted of 34 teams from 15 states, the Huskerland team was the winner of the Copper Division. Davis earned his spot on the team by winning the AAU Nebraska State Tournament held in Hastings last March.
THEDFORD -- The Mullen Broncos were the team champions of the Sandhills/ Thedford Knight Golf Invite. The Broncos were led by Jared Spurlinâ€™s 87 and Allan Elliotâ€™s 88. The two golfers placed second and third in the individual standings behind Burwellâ€™s Austin Svoboda.
The home team, Knights, captured second place while South Loup placed third. Both teams also placed two golfers among the Top 10 individual leaders. In the Top 10 for the Knights were Shayne Rodocker and Colton Schroeder. Clint Schneringer and Lane Gascoigne both landed in the Top 10 for the South Loup Bobcats.
HERSHEY -- The South Loup Bobcat boys track team claimed the top prize at the Hershey Invite and had two participants set meet records. The Bobcats won the team title with 112.75 points with North Platte St. Patrickâ€™s finishing second with 90 points. Drew Bowers set a new meet record in shot put with a 48-5 throw and Logan Glendy set the new meet record in the 300 meter hurdles with a 41.50 second time. Glendy also won the 110 meter hurdles and place fourth in pole vault.
Dan Lupo, age 73 of Ansley, died April 19, 2011 at his home in Ansley.
Funeral services were April 22, in Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow with the Rev. Mel Shepherd officiating. Burial was in the Ansley Cemetery with Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be given to the family.
Danny Dean Lupo was born July 27, 1937, in North Platte, to Sam and Bessie (Ziegenbien) Lupo.
Ronald D. Templin, age 54, of Broken Bow and Berwyn communities died Friday, April 22, 2011 at the Golden Living Center in Broken Bow.
Memorial funeral services were April 27,. at the United Methodist Church in Broken Bow with the Rev. Todd Karges officiating. Inurnment was at the Janesville Cemetery at Berwyn. Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow was in charge of arrangements.
Ronald D. Templin was born March 7, 1957, to Martin O. and Bernice (Boysen) Templin. He lived most of his life in the Broken Bow and Berwyn area, working for Wood Options in Broken Bow.
Thelma P. Hudson, age 98, of Broken Bow, died Saturday April 23, 2011, at the Golden LivingCenter in Broken Bow.
Memorial graveside service was April 27, at the Merna Cemetery with the Rev. Mark Stones officiating. Inurnment was in the Merna Cemetery with Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow in charge of arrangements.
Thelma Hudson is survived by a son, Gaylor Hudson of Milaca, Minn.; several nieces and nephews and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband Earl.
Dorothy Sue (Bundy) Ficken was born April 8, 1916, to John Henry Bundy, Sr., and Mossie (Mise) Bundy on a farm northeast of Springfield.
Dorothy was baptized as an infant at the First United Methodist Church in Springfield. She attended elementary and high school in Springfield, graduating with the class of 1935.
After graduation she worked as a Nanny for 10 years. During these years Dorothy hand pieced many beautiful quilts and crocheted doilies.
BROKEN BOW -- Litchfieldâ€™s Hope Downer and Tyler Snow put together two of the top performances in the Anselmo-Merna Quad in Broken Bow last Wednesday. Downer was the event champion in the triple jump, 300 meter hurdles and was on the winning 4x100 relay team. Downer fell five-tenths of a second shy of her fourth gold medal in the 100 meter hurdles when Anselmo-Mernaâ€™s Paige Olney beat her to the finish line. Snow was also a three event champion for the Trojans. Snow won the long jump, 100 meter dash and ran the first leg on Litchfieldâ€™s winning 4x100 meter relay.
Lawrence Ivan Dady was born May 26, 1916, at Mason City, and left this earth Feb. 7, 2011, in Kingman, Ariz. He was 94-years-old.
Funeral services were March 26 at the Norco Christian Church in Norco, Calif., with the Rev. Alton Vance officiating. Entombment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Cypress, Calif., with Forest Lawn Mortuay of Cypress in charge of arrangements.
The Broken Bow Indian golf team hit the greens again after weather cancelled their previous event. Tanner Johnson fell short by a stroke on the second playoff hole to finish second at the Holdrege Invite Tuesday. As a team the Indians placed eighth. Last week the Indians placed seventh at the Gothenburg Invite with Johnson scoring an 82 putting him among the Top 10 individuals.
