Thelma Lucille (Elliott) Burnett was born June 6, 1922, at Lillian, in Custer County to James Walter Elliott and Minnie Louise Loffel. She and her brother, Harold, grew up in the Lillian community. Thelma went to grade school at Lillian and graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1939; after which she attended Normal Training at Kearney State College to become a teacher. She taught rural schools in Gibbon, Prairie View, and Sunny Dell touching the lives of her students and giving them a firm foundation for learning.
Funeral services for Mae Bertha June, age 95 of Anselmo, were Monday, Dec. 12, at Govier Brothers Mortuary. Mae died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011, in her home, surrounded by family.
The service was officiated by Don Schauda, with burial in the Merna Cemetery. Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow was in charge of arrangements.
Mae was born may 31, 1916, in Wahoo, to William and Matilda (Conrad) Gehrman. She later moved with her family to Pleasant Hill and later Cliff Table in Custer County. In 1940, she married Kenneth June and they moved to Anselmo.
Leola Carlson age 82, died Dec. 5, 2011, at Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island. Memorial services were Saturday, Dec. 10, at Apfel Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry Bradenberg officiating. Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date. Apfel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangement.

An upcoming birthday became an opportunity for giving for one Broken Bow boy and his friends.
Destry Miller recently celebrated his 10th birthday, and as plans were being made for his party his mom made in interesting suggestion to Destry. Knowing he would be getting gifts from his parents, aunts and uncles, his mom suggested Destry donate the gifts he received from his friends to the Childrenâ€™s Christmas Fund. Destry agreed.
The Broken Bow School Board currently has two major issues before them - selecting a new superintendent for the district, and finalizing design plans for the new elementary school project. Both were topics of a special meeting of the board Monday evening.
Joel and Jaimee Bailey of Ansley proudly announce the birth of a son, Kyler Will Bailey. Kyler was born Nov. 1, 2011, at Jennie Melham Medical Center in Broken Bow, weighing 8 pounds 7 ounces and measuring 20 1/2 inches long. Kyler is welcomed home by siblings Alyssa, Tycen, Luke and Kiera. Grandparents are Richard and Ann Fox, and Tom and Irene Bailey.
Brandon and Kelli (Kastens) Brueggemann of Gibbon are proud to introduce their daughter, Madison Ann Bruegge-mann, born Nov. 23, 2011 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. She weighed 7 pounds 11 ounces and was 20 1/4 inches long. Madison joins a brother, Collin, at home.

Paige is a 2009 graduate of Broken Bow High School and is the granddaughter of Harriett Barnes of Gothenburg and the late Glenn Barnes, and Stanley and Virginia Martin of Broken Bow.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of Shane and Karen Keller of Valentine. She is a 2007 graduate of Thedford High School and will graduate in 2012 with a bachelorâ€™s degree in human biology and psychology. Megan is currently working as a physical therapy aide at the Chadron Community Hospital in Chadron, and is planning to pursue a career in Rehabilitation Services.
