Agnes Genevieve Finley, 93

June 18, 2015

Agnes Genevieve Finley, 93, of Kearney, died Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at CHI Good Samaritan.

Mass of Christian Burial was Friday at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Fr. Art Faesser celebrated.

Burial was in Kearney City Cemetery.

According to her wishes Agnes was cremated.

O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home was serving the family.

Memorials are suggested to St. James Catholic Church.

Winona Faye Brummell, 90

June 18, 2015

Winona Faye Brummell, 90, of Casper, Wyo., died June 5, 2015, at Central Wyoming Hospice in Casper. Winona was born April 17, 1925, in Loup City, to Lena (Vergin) and Charles M. Williams.

She married Bob Brummell in Reno, Nevada. He preceded her in death.

She later married Loyd Tanner.

Survivors include her husband; one sister, Evelyn Brush of Broken Bow; a sister-in-law, Bonita Williams of Bassett; nieces and nephews and their families; and her dog, Bella.

Rick L. Glendy, 56

Rick L. Glendy, 56 of Loup City, died Tuesday, June 9, 2015, in Loup City. 

Funeral services were Friday, June 12, 2015, at the United Methodist Church in Loup City with the Rev. Darrell Holzinger officiating. Cremation will follow the service.

Miss Rodeo Cherry County

Entries are now being taken for Miss Rodeo Cherry County. The contest this year will be held on August 5th and 6th. Contestants must be between the ages of 14-20 as of January 1, 2015 and will be competing for over a thousand dollars worth of prizes.

The Horsemanship Contest will be held on August 5 at 7 p.m. at the the fairgrounds. The modeling and speeches will be held on August 6 at 1:30 p.m. The topics of this year's speeches are: "Cherry County - Jewel Of The Sandhills" or "Legends of Rodeo". Speeches, modeling and horsemanship are open to the public.

Ulysses Man Drowns at Calamus

Loup County Sheriff's Department has announced that a 72 year old Ulysses man drowned at the Calamus Reservoir at approximately 5:30 p.m. Thursday, June 11. A witness reported that the man had fallen from his boat while getting onto the boat dock at Valley View boat ramp. The witness made contact with the man and was going to get his boat to help retrieve the vessel that had drifted away, but when he returned the man was swimming out towards the boat. The witness stated he knew the man was having trouble and tried to reach him with a long pole.
