Power Outage Planned for Wednesday June 3rd

The Broken Bow Electrical Department will be turning off power temporarily on South C Street between 1st Ave and 5th Ave from 6:00 A.M. to 7:30 A.M to update the electrical service. We do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. It will be Wednesday June 3rd from 6-7:30 A.M.

Friday and Saturday this week will be the City Wide Garage Sales in Broken Bow.

This weekend is the Sargent Fair & Chokecherry Jamboree. Check out our events calendar for the schedule of events.

Also the Custer County Branch of the Salvation Army will be distributing weather radios Saturday, May 30 from 1-4 PM in the Broken Bow City Square. This will be on a first come, first serve basis for the give away, with only one radio per household. Proof of a Custer County address will be required.

DEPARTMENT FINDS FOURTH CASE OF AVIAN INFLUENZA; NEW COUNTY INVOLVED

LINCOLN - The Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA) in conjunction with the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has confirmed preliminary testing shows the presence of a fourth case of highly pathogenic H5N2 avian influenza (HPAI) in Nebraska. This case has been found at a farm in Knox County.

Hudson-Meng to Be Closed May 29 – June 1

Crawford, NE -  Severe weather over the past several days near Crawford has resulted in deteriorating road conditions and raised concerns regarding public safety. Weather forecasts are also projecting continued rainfall through this week. As a result, the Hudson-Meng Education and Research Center will be closed this upcoming weekend, May 29 – June 1, 2015.  
Jacquelyn Dumin, Acting Site Director said, “Our primary concern is public safety. We would rather the public visit under better conditions than have the potential for a poor experience.”

Historic Cars Tour Area

The Nebraskaland Model T and Antique Car Club was in Broken Bow Thursday night and Friday morning. The Car Club is part of the the Model T Ford Club of America (MTFCA). The members are from Lincoln and Omaha. There are 7 Model T's and 2 Model A's on this road trip. To get to Broken Bow yesterday they drove 200 miles on back roads from Arcadia. Today they are headed to Thedford where they will stay Friday night and Saturday. Sunday the Club is headed back to Lincoln.

Beverly Ann French, 76

May 27, 2015

Beverly Ann French, 76, of Mullen, died May 20, 2015, in Lakeside Hospital in Omaha.

Survivors include her husband, Roger French of Mullen; her son, Jerry (Tonya) French of Kremmling, Colo.; two daughters, Wanda (Brian) Lousberg of Denver, Colo., and Anne (Howard) Kauk of Omaha; one brother, Marvin (Linda) Cox of Mullen; and seven grandchildren.

The family chose cremation. The memorial service will be Friday, May 29, at 2 p.m. MDT in the Sandhills Community Bible Church in Mullen. Pastor Mark Danielson and Kurt Businitz will officiate.

Michael Anthony Stark, 42

Michael Anthony Stark was born Dec. 18, 1972, to Kathryn Eileen Stark in Sidney. He passed away May 20, 2015, at his home in Amherst, Colo., at the age of 42.

Mike attended school in Broken Bow, graduating with the class of 1992. He married Kandi Jo McKillip March 5, 1993, in Bushville. To this union three children were born, Michael Allen Stark, Ryan Jesse Stark and Lynnette Louise Stark.

Beverly Ann Johnson, 65

Beverly Ann Johnson, aged 65, of Fernley, Nev., passed away Sunday, May 24, 2015, in her home after a brief struggle with cancer.

Beverly was born to Alfred Copsey and Maxine Casteel Copsey July 1, 1949, in Burwell.

She married Larry Johnson of Mason City, Nov. 12, 1967.

She completed beauty school at Queen Anne’s School of Beauty in Kearney and worked as a beautician for a short time.
