ARCADIA - - If you feel you have so much stuff that your house feels cramped, just imagine what it would be like if it wasnât just stuff, but equipment that saves lives and peopleâs property. Thatâs the exact problem the Arcadia Volunteer Fire Department and EMS have.
Last Sunday, the Arcadia Fire Department and EMS conducted an open house so that the public could see how cramped they really are and some of the dangers involved. Their hope is that the citizens of Arcadia and the surrounding areas will see the need for a new facility.
Today, Nebraska Public Power District's Board of Directors approved a 3.75 percent average rate increase for both its wholesale and retail customers that will take effect Jan. 1, 2013. NPPD has been discussing this rate adjustment amount with customers since early this year, and is down slightly from the four percent originally forecasted.

MERNA - Kitty Werthmann has made it her mission to educate people and set the record straight about what really happened during one of the most important events in history. Last Friday, Kitty brought her presentation to the student body and the public at Anselmo-Merna Public Schools.
The year was 1938 - Kitty was a 12-year-old girl living in her native land of Austria, which was in the midst of a deep economic depression. The unemployment rate in the country had climbed to 30 percent; farmers, banks and small businesses were going broke.

Thanks to the voters in the Broken Bow school district, the dream of building a new and improved elementary school is coming true. Now one local organization is working to complete that dream, and they need your help.
âLittle Feet, Big Dreamsâ is the name of the campaign that has been launched to achieve those final touches on the school project that the bond does not cover - namely quality flooring and equipment for the new gym, and playground equipment at North Park School. The committee also has long-range plans of renovating the Middle School gym as a performing arts center.

Barack Obama may have been declared the winner of the presidential race Tuesday night, but the state of Nebraska did not agree. And with Custer County and surrounding areas reporting high numbers of voters going to the polls, Mitt Romney was the clear favorite here.
In the race for U.S. Senate the distance between Deb Fischer and Bob Kerrey was about as great as in the presidential race, with Fischer taking this area by a landslide. Custer County voters turned in 4,245 ballots for Fischer, compared to 1,018 for Kerrey.
November 7th
The polls are closed and the ballots are in, but election results are not final ... the following totals for the local school boards do not include provisional, paper or absentee ballots. Write-in votes are not included in these numbers except in Litchfield, where the addition of a write-in candidate may impact the outcome of the elections.

LINCOLN--Nebraskans voted to ensure their right to hunt and fish, but denied state senators an extra term and more pay.
With 60 percent of precincts reporting, all four Nebraska Constitutional amendments looked to be handily decided.
The first amendment on the ballot, the Nebraska Grounds for Impeachment Amendment, was approved by voters at 83 percent. This measure makes any misdemeanor by a candidate running for office grounds for impeachment.
November 6th
The polls will be open Tuesday, Nov. 6, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (7 a.m. to 7 p.m. MDT). Identification is not required at the polling place, and any type of campaign items - such as buttons, t-shirts and stickers - are not allowed.
Custer County polling places for the 2012 election are as follows:

ï»żï»żLINCOLN - The Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA) is reminding producers the deadline for participating in the federal Pasture Rangeland Forage (PRF) Insurance program for 2013 is Nov. 15.
This program is a risk management product of the federal United States Department of Agricultureâs Risk Management Agency (RMA).
