Schall, Adams sworn in - Schall elected president

One of the orders of business at Tuesday’s Broken Bow City Council meeting was the swearing in of incumbent council members Chad Schall, representing the West Ward, and Bill Adams, representing the East Ward. Adams was appointed to the council in December 2010, while Schall was elected.
Following the swearing in, Schall was elected by his peers as president of the council. The council also approved Mayor Cecil Burt’s annual appointments of city engineer - J.E.O., city physician - Dr. Shawn Lawrence, and city finance committee - Chad Schall, Bill Adams, Cody Schmick and Kelly Clay.

Barn enjoys banner year

Tourism continues to be a growing industry in the state of Nebraska, and when it comes to visitors Custer County has its fair share.
The Custer County Tourism Council, under the direction of Chard Hirsch, has completed the 2012 final report for “The Red Barn” travel center - and the numbers are very encouraging. The Barn, technically the Sandhills Journey Scenic Byway Interpretive Center, opened for its fourth season May 1, and closed Sept. 30, 2012.

Church plans Christmas pageant

The Broken Bow First Baptist Church invites everyone to attend a special Christmas Pageant, Sunday, Dec. 16, at 7 p.m. The church is located at 1002 South E Street in Broken Bow. Refreshments will be served following the program.

Bird House sales yield class field trip money

The Custer Elementary gymnasium was a fitting scene Dec. 5 for the upcoming holiday season. The gym housed a large group of 4th grade students making birdhouses in order to raise money for an upcoming field trip to Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha.
With all the hammering and woodworking going on, it wasn’t much less than shop chocked full of Santa’s elves.
The birdhouse building project is a long-standing Custer Elementary School tradition that is headed by Jim Hartman, who is in his 36th year of teaching.
