LB599 will provide prenatal medical assistance for women not covered under Medicaid, including illegal immigrants and women in prison.  According to the bill’s fiscal note, 1,162 unborn babies will be covered annually. In a letter explaining his veto, Gov. Dave Heineman said he opposed the bill because it gave taxpayers’ benefits to illegal immigrants.
