Gov. Dave Heineman today (Friday), in accordance with the proclamation from
President Barack Obama, announced all U.S. and Nebraska flags to be flown at half-staff in respect for the victims of the tragedy in Aurora, Colorado. Flags will be flown at half-staff until sunset, July 25, 2012.
Conventions, Sports and Leisure (CSL) has developed a state-wide strategic plan to cultivate and promote tourism in Nebraska. The Minnesota-based consulting firm was hired by the State Tourism Advisory Board to gather information and present a Tourism Strategic Plan to the industry and the Legislature.
A heat advisory is in effect throughout the weekend and into early next week. That means a period of hot temperatures is expected. When hot temperatures are combined with high humidity, there's potential for heat-related illnesses.
During a prolonged heat spell, people's heat tolerance can go down and heat-related illnesses usually go up according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This is due to the buildup of heat in living and work areas, the body experiencing continued fluid shortage and air-conditioning equipment breaking down.
