BREAKING NEWS: Dubas withdraws from Governor's race

November 25, 2013

LINCOLN - State Senator Annette Dubas announced her withdrawal from the Nebraska Governor's race this morning. Following is the text of her announcement.

Text of Remarks:

Two months ago I announced my candidacy for Governor.

I stood on a flat-bed truck at our farm outside of Fullerton, surrounded by my husband, children and grandchildren.

I spoke that day about the Nebraska values I was raised with: faith, patriotism, hard work, and most importantly - family.

And today, it is with my family in mind that I announce that I am withdrawing as a candidate for Nebraska Governor.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska lawmakers are likely to revisit the idea of allowing teachers to carry guns in school next year, but the proposal will again face strong opposition.

State Sen. Mark Christensen of Imperial said he plans to introduce legislation that could allow teachers to bring concealed weapons into classrooms when lawmakers convene in January. A similar bill died in committee two years ago, but Christensen said he's preparing a new version with additional requirements before teachers or school administrators could qualify.

Cemetery tales entertain, educate

November 18, 2013

It is written that the winds that whisper across the Great Plains tell the stories of our ancestors. For Bev Kennedy, the whispers of stories about those lost in the early days of Custer County, moved to paper as she set out on a great voyage several years ago. Inspired by local folklore, a simple map and a personal challenge, she set out to document the locations of each and every registered cemetery in Custer County.
