House panel subpoenas Kerry on Keystone XL documents

WASHINGTON (AP) — A House panel has issued a subpoena to Secretary of State John Kerry for department documents, reports and letters related to the contentious push to build the Keystone XL pipeline.

Republicans on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee announced the subpoena on Wednesday.

The $8 billion pipeline would transport oil harvested from Canada's tar sands to pipelines linked to refineries on the Gulf of Mexico.

Program would require jobless to have plan to find work

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska residents who receive unemployment benefits would be required to devise and stick to plans for finding work or risk losing lose those benefits, under a new program announced by the governor.

Sheriff: Car recovered from river with 2 bodies inside

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (AP) — Lincoln County Sheriff Jerome Kramer says car that carried two teenagers into the rushing waters of the South Platte River has been recovered with two bodies inside.

Rescuers pulled the car from the river Tuesday morning after building a temporary road to allow an excavator to approach the car.

Kramer says dental records will be used to identify the bodies found in the car over the next few days.

Unforeseen Issues Within Substation Leads to Planned Outage

Late Monday afternoon, Custer Public Power District crews detected an issue within the Haumont Substation, that left unattended may lead to wide spread outage issues. In order to reduce possible damage and minimize the length of time and number of customers affected, Custer Power will be having a planned outage from approximately 9:00 am to noon on Tuesday July 7. The outage will affect only those customers whose irrigation service is fed from the Haumont Substation located near Weissert one mile north of Highway 70 near the junction of Highway 183.

UNMC/Nebraska Medicine designated as National Ebola Training and Education Center

The University of Nebraska Medical Center/Nebraska Medicine, in collaboration with Emory University in Atlanta and Bellevue Hospital Center in New York City, have been awarded a $12 million grant by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to establish and co-lead the nation?s National Ebola Training and Education Center (NETEC).

2015 State Games of America Breaks Record for Entries

LINCOLN, Neb. (July 2, 2015) — The 2015 State Games of America (SGA) in Lincoln and Omaha, Nebraska is officially the largest SGA event since the inception of the games in 1999. So far, 13,119 competitors from 47 states and the District of Columbia have entered, surpassing the previous record of 10,803 entries at the 2007 SGA in Colorado Springs. SGA officials say they will continue to accept online entries for most sports at SGA2015.com.
