NEBRASKA JOINS MULTISTATE LAWSUIT CHALLENGING NEW EPA RULE

Nebraska Attorney General Doug Peterson joined with Attorneys General from twelve other states[1] in filing a lawsuit against the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) over the EPA’s new rule defining “Waters of the United States” under the Clean Water Act. The case was filed in the United States District Court for the District of North Dakota.

Ricketts and father give $200K to death penalty campaign

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Gov. Pete Ricketts and his father contributed most of the $244,000 collected by to the Nebraskans for the Death Penalty campaign in its first reporting period, according to expense reports released Friday.

Ricketts and his father, TD Ameritrade founder Joe Ricketts, each contributed $100,000 to the ballot drive that seeks to put the death penalty question on the 2016 ballot. The group released its financial information ahead of a Tuesday filing deadline with the state.

Candidates jumping early into Nebraska legislative races

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — The general election is nearly a year and a half away, but some candidates for Nebraska Legislature are already jumping into the 2016 race to replace senators who are slated to leave office.

The Nebraska Secretary of State's office is receiving "a handful of calls a week" from potential candidates asking about filing requirements, deadlines and fees, said spokeswoman Laura Strimple.

Gaston Bridge will receive repairs

June 29, 2015

Halsey, NE – The Gaston Bridge on the Bessey Ranger District will be receiving necessary repairs starting June 30 and concluding on July 3. The bridge is located approximately 2 miles east of Thedford, NE on Gaston Road #259, where it crosses the Middle Loop River. The Gaston Road is the west entrance to the ranger district.

5th Avenue Construction Schedule

June 29, 2015

The construction scheduled for this week will be the following:

Pour South half of South B street intersection.
Pour east half of 5th Ave from 109+75 to 111+23.
Pour radii and driveways and sidewalks at South B intersection.
Move to North B street intersection.

Myers plans to move to the North B intersection and begin removals next week. JEO will be staking on Tuesday (7/6).

This picture appeared in the June 26, 1975 issue of the Custer County Chief.

Spectators view wreckage of an 18-car train derailment which occurred just eat of Ansley Monday about 6:20 p.m.
An investigation is continuing into the cause of the derailment, which damaged 10 of the 18 care. The coal cars were twisted, overturned and jammed into the ground. One car was rammed with a portion of the rail.
Trains were re-routed during the clean-up, expected to take 48 hours.

The gas leak we reported on earlier has been resolved.

The area is now open. Residents are able to their homes, but first must contact Source Gas at 1-800-563-0012 before reentering their houses.
