Remember the fallen on Memorial Day

May 26, 2014

Area communities took time Monday to honor those who died in service to our country. At the Broken Bow Township Cemetery James Turner remarked that over one million of our service men and women have given their lives in defense of liberty and freedom. He called on those present to remember their service and dedication so that we could remain free.

To our service men and women everywhere - we say thank you. And today, Memorial Day, we honor your brethren.

Lindsy Siegel takes All Class honors in high jump

May 24, 2014

Ansley-Litchfield's Lindsy Siegel took All Class honors Saturday at the 2014 Nebraska State High School Track & Field Championship at Burke Field in Omaha. Her 5'8" jump tied the Class D state meet record from 2003.

Congratulations to all of our area athletes for an outstanding state meet.

Pierce earns gold in the 1600

May 24, 2014

Kyle Pierce netted hard-earned gold in the 1600M run, finishing in 4:33.10, just 3/100ths of a second ahead of Trey Trauernicht of Sterling. Austin Johnson of Ansley-Litchfield finished in 4:58.

Libby Cramer of Anselmo-Merna added to her list of hardware, placing second in the 1600m with a time of 5:31.82. Libby earned gold Friday in the 3200m.

Broken Bow's Dylan Reynolds takes home a 7th place medal in long jump

Good work central Nebraska.

The Chief will feature complete results from the 2014 State High School Track Meet in this Thursday's Chief.

JUST IN- Lindsy Siegel of Ansley-Litchfield ties state high jump record

May 24, 2014

Ansley-Litchfield's Lindsy Siegel brings home gold after the morning's Class D High Jump competition. Clearing 5'7" to win the meet, she pushed on and tied the Class D record with a 5'8" jump and a personal best. Lindsy's name goes into the books beside a jump made by Amanda Owens of Harvard set in 2003.

Also competing in Class and giving the competition a serious workout were Addy Vinton of Mullen, Shayla Dockweiler of South Loup and Brienna James of SEM.

Congratulation girls and thank you for all of your hard work!

Kyle Pierce wins silver in the 800

May 24, 2014

Loup County's Kyle Pierce put a 1:58.67 run up on the scoreboard in the 800m to take home a silver medal. The gold winning run was netted by Austin Blume of Hitchock County at 1:56.83. Pierce now preps for a go at the 1600m competition later this afternoon.

Representing the Coyotes of Anselmo-Merna, Colin Lambertson put a 2:03.93 on the clock to place 11th.

Good going central Nebraska.

Just in - Jack Gibbens of Twin Loup brings home gold

May 23, 2014

Twin Loup's Jack Gibbens nailed a 44'1.75" triple jump at Burke Field to claim gold in Omaha. He continues his quest Saturday with long jump and 4x400 relay. Congratulations to our area athletes and check Thursday's Chief for complete results of the 2014 State High School Track meet.

Libby Cramer earns gold at State High School Track

May 23, 2014

Anselmo-Merna's Libby Cramer earned gold this morning at Burke Stadium, home of Nebraska's High School Track Meet. Her time of 12:04.69 smoked the field, and set a new personal best for the Lady Coyote, 19 seconds faster than her previous best.

Joining Libby in the arena of medal winners are Lady Coyote Megan Max, earning silver in discus and Tamara Myers of Anselmo-Merna and Shayla Dockweiler of South Loup bringing home a 7th and 8th respectively in long jump.
