Long-time teacher and coach of Norfolk Senior High School, Douglas C. Brown, passed away Oct. 22, 2010, in Norfolk.
Doug was born Sept. 22, 1946, in Broken Bow. He was the youngest of three children of Paul F. Brown and Grace (Betty) E. (Holtorf) Brown.
He graduated from Broken Bow Senior High School in 1965. He participated four years in football, basketball, track, and American Legion baseball. He was quarterback of the football team his senior year, was all-conference in basketball, and qualified for the state track meet in the high jump.
Patricia Ann Case, age 80, of Ansley, died Oct. 21, 2010, at the Golden LivingCenter in Broken Bow.
Patricia was born Nov. 21, 1929, to Frank and Margaret (Heaps) Moore, East of Westerville. She went to Myrtle Grade School, three years at Westerville and one year at Ansley High School. She was raised on a small farm and helped in the field and raising livestock. She had a great love for all animals.
Pat married Wendell C. Case Aug. 25, 1951. They spent their entire married life in Ansley.
Pat worked as a legal secretary the majority of her life, retiring in the late 90's.
Helen D. Rienks Gibson of Amite, La., died Oct. 24, 2010, at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond, La. She was born Oct. 30, 1930, in South Bend, Ind., and was 79 years of age.
Gregory C. Wilcox, 56, of Gering passed away Oct. 13, 2010. He was born Nov. 29, 1953, to Harold and Margaret Wilcox of Oconto.
After graduating from high school in Oconto, he attended MidPlains Vocational Technical School where he received an associates degree in electronics. He continued his education in this field through his years of employment.
In 1974, he moved to Scottsbluff where he and his family resided for many years.
Eva F Shively, 94, of Gothenburg, died Oct. 20, 2010, at the Golden LivingCenter in Cozad.
Eva Fern Brooks Shively, daughter of Frederick and Lila Fern (Chesley) Brooks, was born Jan. 28, 1916, at the family home near the Climax Community northeast of Arnold. Eva was the fifth child born to this union of five boys and seven girls. She departed her earthly life to be with her Savior Oct. 20, 2010, at the age of 94 years.
Doris Fay Stauffer Loeffelholz Reed was born Feb. 4, 1951, in Kearney. She was the youngest child of Aaron and Dollie (Scott) Stauffer.
She died Oct. 10, 2010, in Denver, Colo., at the Trauma Center after an elevator wheelchair lift accident in North Platte. She had just moved from Off Broadway in Broken Bow to an assisted living center just 11 days ago.
Doris had two brothers, Gerald and LeRoy; and two sisters, Carol and Patricia.
Lillie Jewel (Pirnie) Babcock, age 85, of Grand Island, formerly of the Broken Bow, Dunning, Nebraska area, died Oct. 17, 2010, in the Saint Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Lillie J. was born Aug. 16, 1925, in Groesbeck, Texas, to Daniel C. and Melvinie (Winn) Chavers.
Lillie was married to Gifford Pirnie who died in 1993, and later Robert Babcock.
Lillie is survived by three sons, Alvin Pirnie of Hordville, Montie Pirnie of Phillips, and Rich Pirnie of Ainsworth; two daughters, Lillie Jones of Grand
Rex Duryea age 84 passed away Oct. 17, 2010 at the Custer Care Center #2 in Broken Bow.
Rex was born March 17, 1926, to Clarence and Myrtle (McClement) Duryea at Dunning. Rex joined the US Marine Corps at the age of 17 and served with the 1st Marine Division in the Pacific during World War II on Okinawa and Peleliu where he earned two purple hearts and numerous other decorations.
August 25, 1945, he was married to Mary Huffman and to this union three children were born.
Rex worked 32 years with the Burlington Northern Railroad until his retirement in 1982.
Bob Crow, 80, passed away peacefully in his home in Arnold, Oct. 15, 2010. Robert Allen was born to Leslie Allen and Sophia Nickolena Julia (Beyer) Crow on July 29, 1930, the fourth of seven children. He was born on a farm five miles south of Arnold.
Bob attended Yucca Valley grade school most of his kindergarten year. The family moved to Mills Valley where Bob attended country school through the seventh grade. He attended eighth grade and high school in Arnold as his family moved two and a half miles east of Arnold.
Hazel Marjorie (Wilbourn) Lattimer passed away in her sleep Oct. 4, 2010, at Chardon-nay Assisted Living Center in Twin Falls, Idaho at the age of 98.
Hazel was born June 5, 1912, in Callaway, to Samuel Ferguson Baker and Amanda Zemora Overturf Baker. She had 10 siblings, most of whom were gone from home before she was born.
She married Guy Brian Wilbourn Aug. 9, 1927, at Gandy. They had three children, Nadine (Scott) McMaster, David (Mary) Wilbourn and Kay (Bob) Piva. She was widowed in 1962 after 33 years of marriage.
She met and married Guy Lattimer Sept. 14, 1964.
