Gaylord "Squeak" Schmitz, age 72 of Merna, died Saturday, June 25, 2011, at the Jennie Melham Medical Center in Broken Bow.
Funeral services were Wednesday, June 29, 2011, in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Broken Bow with Father Jim Hunt officiating. Burial with military honors was in the Dale Catholic Cemetery near Merna. Memorials are suggested to the Merna Fire and Rescue or the American Parkinson's Disease Associa-tion.
Memorial services for James Walter Souders, 75, of Wilmington, NC, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at the United Methodist Church in Merna, with interment of cremains to follow at the Merna Cemetery. The family will host a lunch in the Merna Community Center after the interment.
James died March 2, 2011, in Wilmington. The Andrews Mortuary in that city handled the cremation.
Viola Mary (Wehling) Ritchie Brim passed peacefully to Heaven while at home, surrounded by her family, Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at the age of 93 years.
Viola was born Dec. 19, 1917, on the family farm near Broken Bow to Charles B. and Anna (Thanel) Wehling. Viola attended country school and graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1934, at the age of 16.
Esther Nadene Cox-Pearson, 84, of Broken Bow, formerly of Callaway, died Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at the Golden Living Center in Broken Bow.
She was born Sept. 28, 1926, in Holyoke, Colo., to Ray and Martha (Brown) Stroup. She was a 1945 graduate of Phillips County High School in Haxtun, Colo., and went on to further her education at Sterling Junior College, graduating in May of 1947.
She was baptized in April 1939, in the Presbyterian Church in Colorado and later joined the United Methodist Church in Callaway when the couple moved there.
Kathleen âKittyâ Frances Campbell, 86, died May 7, 2011, in Flagstaff, Ariz., with family members at her side. She was born in 1924, in Pawhuska, Okla.
Helen Nelson, age 85 of Broken Bow, died Thursday June 23, 2011, at Jennie M. Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow.
Funeral services were Tuesday, June 28, at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. Burial was in the Broken Bow Cemetery with Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow in charge of the arrangements.
Helen Louise Nelson, daughter of James and Alvena (Peterson) Erazim of Hazard, Nebraska was born April 1, 1926, at the family home in Hazard, where she was raised. She attended the Hazard Methodist Church and Sunday School.
